Summary

The interactive film Cat Burglar is fun, silly, and over the top. Reminiscent of past cartoons from the Looney Tunes era, this film can entertain the whole family.

This review of the Netflix interactive film Cat Burglar does not contain any spoilers.

Did you enjoy interactive films on Netflix such as Escape the Undertaker and Black Mirror: Bandersnatch? You’re in luck! Cat Burglar follows a very similar format.

While Cat Burglar is from the creator of Black Mirror: Bandersnatch (Charlie Brooker), the newest interactive film is completely animated. And, therefore, it feels like a mix of Itchy and Scratchy (The Simpsons) and Looney Tunes. But don’t fear as the violence never goes too far. Instead of blood and gore, the violence remains comical, over-the-top, and lighthearted. As Cat Burglar has a similar style and tone to Looney Tunes, it even makes the interactive film entertaining for adults.

Cat Burglar centers around Rowdy the Cat, who wants to steal a painting that Peanut the Security Pup will guide. And so, the purpose of the short film (approximately 12 minutes) is to try and have Rowdy enter the museum and successfully steal the painting. And to do so, audiences must answer three questions correctly. If they do, Rowdy progresses to the next step of the film. If not, Rowdy dies in a violent (yet hysterical) manner.

But do be warned, the timer for the questions isn’t very long by any means. There’s little time to be slow, and audiences will have to think fast. However, I’m sure that there’ll be plenty of younger viewers who will get the questions wrong on purpose. And the reason for doing so? Just to see Rowdy die over and over again. As for the types of questions, there’s a wide variety of topics that are sure to entertain and educate younger viewers. Those topics include stars, perfect thank-yous, pick-up lines, and ice cream.

All in all, this is a very entertaining watch. And don’t be surprised if children replay/rewatch Cat Burglar so that they can view all of the different scenes/endings.
