Read the season 1 review of Savage Rhythm.

A dance drama surrounded by social issues. Sound familiar? Savage Rhythm is a rehashed narrative concept that we’ve seen delivered many times, especially in film form, but this Colombian series attempts to bring a gritty narrative of two dancers who live a life polar opposites apart and somehow collide together to reach their ambitions. The first season was released on March 2, 2022.

Premise

The story follows two female leads, Antonio and Karina. Antonio lives a life of resentment and privilege. With her mother living through her life vicariously, Antonio painstakingly has to try and have a career in dancing while her mother disapproves. Meanwhile, on the other hand, Karina lives a humble life, enjoying the success of her dance crew while holding down an undesirable job with a creepy boss. When the two women collide, we are introduced to a perilous world where both dancers try and succeed in their ambitions.

Critical reception

At Ready Steady Cut, we gave Savage Rhythm season 1 a favorable review:

“There’s no arguing that Savage Rhythm is certainly entertaining, but this story has been rehashed many times. It requires the audience to embrace it.”

Status: TBC

So far, there’s been no confirmation on whether there will be a season 2 of Savage Rhythm, with Netflix making their habit of leaving renewals to the guesswork of TV commentators. It will usually be down to the watch hours and what they deem to be good. However, this Colombian series does have promise, and with a vibrant cast, we wouldn’t be surprised if it amassed some popularity.
