We knew that Doug wouldn’t let this free publicity go to waste. We know any publicity is good publicity, so he is running with everything going on and having his team send magazines across the globe.
I love when Doug says, “I don’t want you to Joyce it up.”
Joyce finds out real fast that her words will be twisted by the media and turned into whatever the media wants them to be. Much to her disliking, Doug is having a ball because the magazine is only growing in popularity now.
Tina and Doug hit the newsstand to find the magazine and find out that the magazine is FLYING off the shelves. The controversy surrounding the magazine full of dicks makes everyone want a copy. Nobody is happier than Doug and even talk shows and radio shows across the US are talking about Minx.
The big problem is the response to Joyce hasn’t been very kind with sending awful letters and now our friendly new councilwoman is setting up protests across the state. The type of publicity around Minx isn’t what Joyce was hoping for. How she reacts and takes on the problem should be intriguing to watch.
Debbie-downer Tina tries to make Doug understand that this might be short-lived because of Joyce’s reaction to all the fame. However, while this happens, Joyce relieves some stress by paying a visit to Glenn. Unfortunately, the sleepover turns into a pitch from Glenn to bring Minx on board with him and Joyce flips out because he only wants to invest now that Joyce has blown up.
Bambi and Richie show up at a party, and Richie, who is always timid, wanders around until he stumbles across someone who loves his work with Minx. I like Richie in this show. So, I would love to see more of his character explored over the show’s final three episodes. I hope this is only the beginning of a more significant arc for him.
Joyce has arrived at the radio station for her big interview and I believe she is about to set the world on fire.
The ending
Upon the interview starting, the gents at the radio station mock the idea of Joyce, her feminist side, but she is locked and loaded with comebacks the deejays aren’t ready for. So finally, the moment I (and many of you) have been waiting for has arrived. Joyce delivers the speech of a lifetime about her stance on things within all of this.
Ophelia Lovibond has been on fire all season long and this moment was the breakthrough I’ve wanted from her. It was the culmination of the last six episodes of her struggling, putting up with shit, and taking a few too many on the chin from Doug. Lovibond delivers a speech as Joyce in a powerful and convincing way.
Doug and Tina? WHAT. I thought they had one of those flirty business relationships that never crossed that line and BOOM, the line was crossed.
