Jazz Ray Cole (Jericho) plays Izzy Letts, a new client of Mickey Haller who was charged with theft and assault. She becomes an intricate part of the show, the moral compass if you will, of Mickey Haller, when it comes to the blurred lines of addiction. After a long stint in rehab, Izzy becomes Haller’s sounding board after he reacclimated himself back into the world as a lawyer.
So, that begs the question:
Who is Izzy Letts in season 1 of The Lincoln Lawyer?
Izzy Letts is a former heroin addict and one of Jerry Vincent’s clients that Mickey Haller inherited when he took over his firm. Izzy became hooked on this highly illegal drug when she became addicted to painkillers. (Opioid addicts frequently turn to heroin when pills are not available or too expensive). Mickey manages to overturn her charge and hires her as his driver as a way to pay him back the money she owes him.
What does Izzy do?
Izzy was charged with stealing an expensive necklace from a tourist to pay for her addiction. She is now clean but was overcharged with an assault. Mickey, who has an eye for jewelry, sees that the necklace is fake. Since the husband does not want to admit to the wife they are not real and avoid an insurance fraud charge, he drops the charges.
Izzy has no money to pay him back. Haller makes him his driver. They develop a friendship based on shared experiences like an addiction. She takes him to her meetings. She takes them away when he is about to drink over the Jesus Menendez case. When she is about to stumble, Mickey bribes his way into the Staple center to take her home.
Izzy is also folded into an exciting plot device. Throughout the series, Mickey teaches her about the law while driving him to a destination that is not clear. When they finally reach it, it is a prison where we see Jesus Menendez being freed.
