Shining Girls season 1, episode 7 recap

Kirby goes to her flat; her Mom is already there. But Kirby has reason to celebrate as work is going well. Her life, and Kirby herself, for that matter, seems to be in a good place. Later that night, she takes her dog for a walk, and after finding a tennis ball on the beach, she decides to play fetch with her dog. But then this is when Harper attacks her. She retells the story to Ben and Jin-Sook, and despite the high number of people around, no one saw Harper at the time of the crime.

Harper finds a new potential victim. Kirby reveals to her work colleague that she didn’t know who he was a week ago. He tells her that she needs to stop working on Dan’s story. Kirby and Dan go to a pig slaughter, and they look for Klara. They learn from one of the workers that Klara was killed there. That worker takes Kirby and Dan to the location where Klara’s body was found in 1920, and he adds that Klara was covered in radium. Dan thinks that it’s too far back and that it can’t be the same woman. And based on where/how Klara was dumped, Kirby guesses that he was trying to punish her.

As Jin-Sook practices her speech for work, the audio of her death from another timeline begins to play. And when no one else is around, Harper shows himself. Meanwhile, Kirby gets the feeling that Jin-Sook may be in danger and calls her. Whilst searching through records, Kirby finds Klara’s ID. She also finds an ID card belonging to John Smith with Harper’s face on it.

Kirby’s husband, Marcus, tells Kirby’s superior, Abby, about his fears about Kirby and about how she claims to not know who she is. Kirby and Dan speculate on what to do with the information they have gained relating to Harper. Little do either of them know that as they speak, Harper is nearby and listening. When Kirby returns to work, Abby tells Kirby to take some time to take care of herself, aka, take a leave of absence. After learning that Marcus is the one to blame, she tells him she will grab her things in a couple of hours.

The ending

Dan finds a date of note: April 15th, 1981. As the event gets underway, Jin-Sook goes to fix the feed, which has stopped working. And just when you think that Harper will appear, Kirby arrives and asks, “where is he”. It confuses Kirby that Harper isn’t there. Instead, Harper follows Dan, and he stabs Dan to death. When Jin-Sook attempts to enter the lecture, she not only is wearing different clothes, but she is no longer the main speaker. She finds Kirby and asks what has happened to them. Freddie spots Harper leaving the club, and he wants to know why Harper is wearing Dan’s jacket.
