Shining Girls is an excellent series from Apple TV+ starring Elizabeth Moss. The TV show is still popular, but the chances of a Season 2 is now unlikely after minimal updates for nearly 2 years. With Moss playing the role of Kirby, she is a journalist who uncovers the link between a series of murders and her own attack years prior. But as the story constantly shifts timelines, Kirby finds herself out of sorts, with few believing what she has to tell them.
The series itself is based on the 2013 novel The Shining Girls, which was written by Lauren Beukes. But as the series seems to cover all the material from the book, will Shining Girls bother returning for a second season?
Will there be a Season 2 of Shining Girls?
January 29th, 2024 Update
Now we are in 2024, questions remain on whether we will get a Season 2 of Shining Girls. Unfortunately, there is still no news on its renewal and cancelled status. We can only assume the series is canceled, which will not be surprising to many, as it was billed as a “miniseries.”
Elisabeth Moss, who stars in the series, did not feel comfortable where the story was left. Speaking to The Wrap, she said:
“Personally speaking, just honestly, I feel like there’s more story to tell. I think that sometimes with the first season, you’ve just given everybody a lay of the land. And then in the second season, you get to actually get down to business and have some fun. So I would be interested in ‘where do we go now’ and not having to explain the world, but getting to go deeper into it.”
June 2nd, 2022 Update
At the time of writing, there has been no news on the future of Shining Girls. However, seeing as the series always felt as though it would conclude by the final episode of the first season, it would come as a surprise if the show returned. I feel that Shining Girls covered everything that it wanted to (and more) in the eight episodes of the first season.
So for me, I am going to predict that there won’t be a second season. However, who knows, I could be wrong. If Shining Girls is popular enough, I’m sure the writers could think of a way to bring Kirby, Harper, and the others back onto our screen. But what do you think? Should Shining Girls return for a second season, or would you be happy with just one season?
Of course, like always, we’ll keep you updated with the latest developments around Shining Girls, so be sure to keep checking back at Ready Steady Cut for updates.
