Netflix’s Spanish series, The Longest Night, is a pacey prison-set thriller with a compelling premise, and the ending makes way for a Season 2. Across six episodes, the show’s an enticing binge-watch proposition, though it fails to resolve its mysterious narrative by the end, resulting in a frustrating finale with little resolution. In 2024, there’s still no news if there will be a Season 2. There’s a possibility that it will not be renewed.

Will there be a Season 2 of The Longest Night?

At the time of writing, it’s unclear what the future of this show will be. By now, Netflix usually review the viewing figures and make a decision, but so far, there has been nothing to indicate any movement. We can only conclude a this stage that The Longest Night has been canceled.

The good news is that the story has clearly been conceived of as a multi-season narrative. Virtually nothing was resolved by the end of the first season, and there are plenty of directions that the story could head in should this end up being renewed. I couldn’t say for certain, but if The Longest Night develops some fan interest, I think it’s likely we’d see a continuation.

What do we know about The Longest Night Season 2 so far?

While we have very little concrete information, it’s easy to make some educated guesses about where things might go. Spoilers for the first season below.

For one thing, it seems like Hugo and Lennon are going to work together, though it’s unclear as yet precisely what involvement Hugo has with the whole conspiracy since he’s clearly familiar with Laura’s kidnappers and the mysterious fourth man who continued to get phone calls throughout the season. This is definitely a thread that would be tugged on.

There’s also the matter of the inmates, especially since Manuela uncovered Cherokee’s deception when she discovered the prison doctor alive and well. That and Sara’s handshake agreement with Javi remain unaddressed, as well as the fate of Raquel’s child, and what will happen to Bastos.

In other words, there’s plenty of meat on the bones of this show.
