This article discusses the Netflix series Kleo, including information about the release date, premise, cast, production, and other details.

On August 19th, Netflix releases Kleo, a violent and darkly comic thriller set around the world of female assassins and revenge. Will this be a Killing Eve knock-off or something unique for fans of the genre? Time will tell, but in the meantime, here’s what we know about it.

Kleo release date

Kleo is slated to be released on Netflix worldwide on August 19.

Netflix’s Kleo premise

We start in 1987 and Kleo has just eliminated her latest target, but is arrested and imprisoned then left, forgotten by her Grandfather and the Stasi that employed her. However, it’s not long before the fall of the Berlin Wall, and Kleo is released, but the trail of lies and conspiracy that is exposed to her threatens her very existence, and the McGuffin, a red suitcase, leads her through the depths of Berlin and to the Atacama Desert, with police officer Sven hot on her tail.

Our opinion of the premise

I imagine the series will follow Kleo as she works her way through the twists and turns of the plot that seems to involve the KGB, as well as being tracked by a possible love interest and police officer Sven. It would seem that this German production may well springboard off the popularity of Killing Eve, with a dash of Red Sparrow, Salt, and Atomic Blonde, and who knows, it might even do it better. Netflix has scored a few great hits with international shows, so be sure to give Kleo a look, especially if you are a fan of this genre.

Is there a trailer?

There certainly is, watch it here:

What else do we know?

Well, this German production seems set to take on the world of the female assassin so who else is getting Killing Eve vibes here? The period setting though is interesting and there are certainly some stylistically attractive locales here. It seems as well as being a Stasi killer, Kleo is a master of disguise, deceit, and murder. The trailer shows us that there is a dark comic line running through the series. Kleo is arrested, but wants, like us, to know why she was denounced. The writers have worked together before on the TV series 4 Blocks, and the German-language Amazon original You Are Wanted.
