Locke and Key season 3, episode 7 recap

In 1995 at Mathson Academy, Rendell draws and creates a little monster, Caliban. Captain Frederick Gideon forces Ellie to drive, but whilst they’re speeding, she pulls on the brakes and tries to flee. However, the Captain soon tracks Ellie back down. Nina struggles with Sam being back in her life, but Sam tries to convince her of how sorry she is. Goldie hears a noise and finds that Gideon and Ellie are in his house. Ellie warns him that the Captain wants a key that’s inside of her head. But as Goldie doesn’t remember the magic, he has a hard time believing Captain Gideon and Ellie.

So Goldie tries to fight Gideon, drastically underestimating him. As a result, Gideon stabs Goldie. When Goldie tells Ellie to do what she needs to do to save herself, Ellie puts a key in Goldie’s neck. Soon after, Tyler, Kinsey, Sam/James, and Rufus find a dying Gordie Shaw. As Rufus calls an ambulance, Tyler, Kinsey, and Sam walk into another word. In Goldie’s world, Ellie leads Captain Frederick Gideon underground into feelings of rage and hate. Then, as demonic beings attack the Captain, Ellie flees.

The Ending

As Goldie starts to die, the lights in his world begin to go out. In the real world, the paramedics arrive as Rufus freaks out over there being two Goldies. When Ellie goes to retrieve the key, it’s gone. And a quick flashback shows that her friend, Erin, decided to move the key into a safer spot. But where? But it doesn’t matter for Tyler; if they are in his head whilst Goldie dies, they’ll be trapped there forever.

When the gang finds the key, Captain Gideon catches them, and they all fight. Gideon throws a piano on Sam, seemingly trapping him. As the paramedics perform CPR on Goldie, the world begins to change. Mathson Police arrest Rufus as they incorrectly believe he could be the one responsible for Goldie’s stabbing. The second to last episode of Locke and Key ends as Goldie’s heart stops, and his world seemingly collapses with Tyler, Kinsey, Ellie, and Sam still inside. Will they be able to get out?

In some ways, this episode has a Twin Peaks vibe to it, although, obviously due to the target audience, it is much tamer and less traumatic. All in all, it’s a decent episode, and fans are likely to be intrigued as they head into the final ever episode of Locke and Key.
