You’re Nothing Special is, fittingly, nothing special, a run-of-the-mill teen drama on Netflix with very light supernatural elements that mostly function as a metaphor for standing out and fitting in.
However, as Netflix is well aware, this genre is endlessly popular, and with the streaming giant making a particular point to target a very specific younger-skewing demographic, this is exactly the kind of show that might develop some traction and find an audience. That audience will no doubt be wondering about the show’s potential future, so here’s everything we know.
At the time of writing there hasn’t been any official word of a renewal. Of course, it’s still early days, so raw viewership, watch hours, and social media traction will be the metrics to keep an eye on if you’re interested.
Sites such as Netflix Top 10 report on this with decent accuracy.
Critically, our review was middling, and that seems to be the wider impression of the series. But it’s always difficult to predict how a certain show will touch a particular demo, and since very few media critics are teenage girls, critical reception is, in this case, not the most valuable measure of a show’s success.
I noted in the review that there’s a decent amount of relatability here, and I can’t help but think the target audience will be satisfied, even if not everything is necessarily resolved by the end. Perhaps that’s reason alone to keep the story going?
I wouldn’t put any money on it, but I think it’s fair for fans to hope here.
