This article discusses “Where was the Paramount+ film On the Come Up filmed” and may contain minor plot references.

On the Come Up combines classic storytelling of rags to riches or nobody to somebody techniques with modern themes of racism, police overreach, and stereotyping of people of color. Adapted from a book of the same name by The Hate U Give Author Angie Thomas, director Sanaa Lathan’s film reverberates with an authentic voice.

Where was the Paramount+ film On the Come Up filmed – a breakdown of locations

Even though On the Come Up takes place in the same world as The Hate U Give, Garden Heights of Jackson, Mississippi, the film was shot in two different locations. The shooting occurred in Raleigh, North Carolina, and Atlanta, Georgia. The shooting was completed in 2021.

Lou was filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia, a major city in Western Canada, located on the mainland of the province and known for being one of the greenest cities in the world and Canada’s most expensive city to live in. As of the 2021 census, the city has 662,248 people. The greater Vancouver area has over 2 million residents, the third largest city in Canada. The film was shot in and around the city in 2020 and at the end of 2021, per IMDb.

Raleigh, North Carolina

Named after Sir Walter Raleigh, it is the second largest city in North Carolina and the 41st ranked population in the United States. The city is called “The City of Oaks” for the large number of “majestic” oak trees that line the streets of Raleigh. Raleigh says the state is known for its thriving restaurant scene, including barbeque, grits, biscuits, and fried chicken.

The list of films and television series shot in the city is limited. In fact, according to the North Carolina Film Office, On the Come Up is the most prominent film shot there. Charlotte and Wilmington dominate the NCFO locations. The movies and television shows include Netflix’s Along for the Ride, Hightown, The Black Phone, and Prime Video’s The Summer I Turned Pretty.

Atlanta, Georgia

The city of Atlanta has become the Hollywood of the South. In fact, over the past twenty years, the area has been a fixture in Hollywood development, like Mr. Tyler Perry, who has built a large studio aptly named Tyler Perry studios and even offers tours since 2020. A wealth of classic and popular films were shot in Atlanta’s Tyler Perry Studios, which has a massive 330-acre campus. Shows like Cobra-Kai, She-Hulk, and Rick & Morty have been shot there, as well as features such as First Man, Red Notice, Coming 2 America, and Zombieland: Double Tap. And, of course, you have the Marvel Cinematic Universe with movies like the Avengers, Captain America: Civil War, and Black Widow.

The film industry in Georgia has 3.9 billion dollars in investments, and the Georgia Commerce Contacts (you will see their logo at the end of every episode of Family Feud) created over 30,000 jobs in Georgia. The Atlanta metro area is the 8th largest in the United States, with the 10th largest economy.
