Glitch season 1, episode 1 recap

The first episode of Glitch opens with a little girl lying down and listening to music in an open field, and a meter is lying beside her. A bright light comes to her that looks like an eye. She approaches the light with her camera and can’t get a clear image of it. It then goes to the present day to see Hong Ji-Hyo (Jeon Yeo-been) all grown up and living her life. She believes in science, and she still lives with her father and step-mom at home.

We see her way of living; she is always punctual, respectful, and follows rules. Very regimented. At work, a young girl is getting married and she looks at her questioning why she would ever get married so young. She questions the benefit of being committed at such a young age. When she goes to the grocery store she sees an alien in one of the aisles. She’s having trouble believing in what she saw, so she distracts herself and doesn’t want to lose touch with reality. Messages from the alien follow her wherever she goes and they say not to ignore what’s happening right in front of her. The camera’s glitch comes on in her office, and the aliens tell her they are watching her.

The alien in the shop tracked her and that’s how they’re looking for her. It’s a new approach to getting to her and she can’t stop thinking about what happened. At one point, she sees the alien grow in front of her, and the alien is towering over her. She asks the security guard in the building to check the cameras, and he sees nothing in front of her. In her personal life, Ji-hyo has a boyfriend named Lee Si-kook (Lee Dong-hwi), and he wants to get married to her, but since she feels like she is losing her mind, she feels as if she is not good for him. She sees her co-workers getting married but she doesn’t know if she feels like she wants to get married at all.

Ji-hyo goes to see her therapist about the alien and she genuinely thinks it’s a hallucination. She wants to stop seeing aliens and she thinks it’s psychological. Ji-hyo is also worried about her friend Seehee and how she will feel once she moves in with her boyfriend Si-kook. After dinner with her parents, and boyfriend, she decides to break up with him.

The ending

Ji-hyo is worried about her mental health and that he may not love her if this continues to happen. When Ji-hyo leaves, a light comes to Si-kook. Similar to what the young girl did at the beginning of the episode, Si-kook takes out his camera and tries to take a photo of whatever is in the light. Shortly after he vanishes. All that’s left behind is his watch on the ground.

There’s a little scene after the credits that shows this alien website that has been created to track down the UFOs and this leads into the next episode. It leaves the episode on a good cliffhanger to make the viewer interested to see what happens with alien abduction.
