The highly anticipated Netflix festival film All Quiet on the Western Front is out soon – we discuss the release date, time, plot synopsis, cast, and trailer.

Netflix is getting ready to release a new adaptation of the novel of the same name by Erich Maria RemarqueAll Quiet on the Western Front already made its way to the big screen in 1930 with the critically acclaimed movie by director Lewis Milestone, which also became the Best Picture winner of that year, but will now get a German-speaking adaptation released on the streaming platform. The movie, set during World War I, is set to be a cautionary tale against all armed conflicts, something that is quite relevant in today’s global landscape.

If you haven’t heard of this movie, let us catch you up to speed with everything that we know about it so far.

Netflix film All Quiet on the Western Front plot synopsis

Here is the official plot synopsis:

“All Quiet on the Western Front tells the gripping story of a young German soldier on the Western Front of World War I. Paul and his comrades experience first-hand how the initial euphoria of war turns into desperation and fear as they fight for their lives, and each other, in the trenches. The film from director Edward Berger is based on the world renowned bestseller of the same name by.”

Our opinion of the premise

When I first heard about Netflix doing this movie, I immediately rolled my eyes. How dare they touch this classic of war movies, which may also be a touchstone of 1930s cinema and that essentially defined the genre for decades to come? But of course, it makes all the sense in the world. The original movie was a book adaptation, and it’s now, for better or worse, run its life and probably been forgotten. I would actually be surprised if 5% of the people watching this new Netflix adaptation even know there is a 1930 movie of the same name, let alone watched it.

And, of course, this was originally a novel, so it’s not like we’re remaking the original movie. It’s also a German movie, which makes it at least a bit more believable than the first movie. I am excited about it, and I will definitely be checking it out when I get the chance.

All Quiet on the Western Front release date

The Netflix film will be released globally on Netflix on Friday, October 28th, at 12 am PT.
