The series has always handled body image, sexuality, and relationships in the most candid way possible. And it continues in this sixth season. The things that happen with these characters are always light and fun, but this season goes into important familial issues that change the dynamic and maturity level of each of them.

For six seasons, Big Mouth has gotten better and better because of the new characters added. This season goes back to the roots of the main characters and how much has changed over the years. Each character has gone through changes personally, but in this season, the focus is on everyone around them affecting how they’re feeling.
After one of the earlier episodes in the season, the kids take an ancestry test that plants little seeds for future episodes. Nick (Nick Kroll) is still trying to navigate his sexual exploration and is falling short, but it’s what he discovers in his father’s closet that sends him spiraling.
The family dynamic changes for Nicky and his parents are at the forefront by the end of season six. Andrew (John Mulaney) is having some relationship issues and is having trouble opening up to his girlfriend Bernie Sanders (Kristen Schaal). He finds out that Bernie is on the same level in regard to sexual encounters and has trouble understanding that a girl can be like him. Andrew goes through it this season as his parents are also on the rocks and he can slowly see them moving away from each other.
Jessi (Jessi Klein) is having some trouble of her own with her stepmom and newborn little sister, but her storyline isn’t as prominent as the others this season. Missy (Ayo Edebiri) explores her sexuality as well but it leaves her with a few surprises when she meets a new boy at a bus stop. His backstory is really interesting and will educate many people who are confused about the sexuality spectrum.
Lastly, the relationship between Matthew (Andrew Rannells) and Jay (Jason Mantzoukas) goes on a rollercoaster this season and it is actually heartbreaking to watch. A lot of things happen to these characters, and it’s almost necessary to push their story forward. This is coming in the sixth season of the show which is now a pivotal moment in all of their lives. If you watched Human Resources Maury (Nick Kroll) and Connie (Maya Rudolph) are pregnant and that carries into season six. However, Connie wants nothing to do with Maury and they keep a distance from each other this season, which is felt.
Season six also doesn’t shy away from the musical numbers and there are some very educational episodes (for women) that explore some important issues.
