We discuss the Peacock documentary series Once Upon a Time in Londongrad, including the release date, plot synopsis, and trailer.
Murder, death, international intrigue, and mystery are the main ingredients for a spy thriller that would have major Hollywood studios buzzing. However, when the stories are real, the stakes are so much higher, and this latest docu-series grabs the bull by the horns and goes for broke. Based on the real-life deaths of 14 people in the UK, all with connections to Russia, Once Upon a Time in Londongrad is as fascinating as it is terrifying.
Once Upon a Time in Londongrad plot synopsis
Here is the plot synopsis:
“14 deaths in the UK, all with connections to Russia, and an investigative reporter trying to join the dots to see the full picture. The reporter in question, Heidi Blake, receives a tip off about the death of a multi-millionaire in the UK. However, it appears this is the tip of the iceberg that slowly begins to reveal a complex web of murder and deceit over the last few decades. Based on an original report from Buzzfeed, this series manages to flesh out and explain the process that Heidi and her team had to take to link the events of 14 deaths in the UK, all with Russian connections. It starts with an investigation into the death of Scot Young, a super fixer with links to the Russian mob, who was found impaled on railings in London in 2014. The millionaire seemed to have fallen from the balcony of a rented flat in Marylebone. An inquest reported an open verdict, but family insist he had been murdered. It appeared that Young had links to exiled Russian Boris Berezovsky, an Oligarch who had opposed President Putin. Berezovsky himself had been found dead a year earlier, after several assassination attempts. Already this story demands a closer look, and Heidi and her team are leaving no stone unturned.”
Our opinion of the premise
The premise has me hooked already. Since they stopped making Spooks, I have always felt that there was a space for more UK-based spy content, and this seems to fit the bill. The horror here though is the fact that this is a true ongoing story that seems to be constantly evolving.

This series has all the hallmarks of an international spy thriller, that involves London, Washington, and Russia, as well as the CIA and the FBI. Cover-ups, unseen evidence, politics, and scandal are all involved as the 14 deaths seem to be part of some kind of global conspiracy, Gripping, unbelievable, and relevant, this is another case of truth being stranger than any fiction.
