Summary

Dead to Me finds a note of completion that comes full circle, only to end in a way that made me think someone should have been wearing a members-only jacket.

We recap the Netflix series Dead to Me season 3, episode 10, “We’ve Reached the End,” which contains spoilers and explains the ending.

Dead to Me wraps its run at Judy (Linda Cardellini) and Jen’s (Christina Applegate) vacation. They are going to Mexico, but the Greeks find them before crossing the border. However, Jen and Judy tell them she has cancer, giving her time to make an excuse to grab her medicine from the glove compartment. She pulled out a gun, shot a couple of bullets into other Greek muscle tires, and had them hand over their weapons.

Dead to Me season 3, episode 10 recap

When at Steve’s vacation home in Mexico, they find two things. One is a cat. The other is the mustang which ran over Ted. How? Jen thought they destroyed it. However, Steve shipped it out of the country and put it back together in Mexico. Jen is initially upset but tells Judy that this all led to her. (Man, I hope Ted is not watching this right now). While on the beach, Jen tells Judy that she wants all of them to stay there. Jen can sell homes anywhere, and she can be with Judy and not be with her kids. (Yes, again, let’s hope Ted is not watching).

Then Jen starts to bleed, and a doctor tells her it’s placenta previa. (An issue during pregnancy when the placenta wholly or partially covers the opening of the cervix). She will be fine, but Jen also is told she is having a girl. They celebrate at a restaurant, and Ben calls. Jen tells Ben that she is pregnant and he is the father. He also drops the news that Glenn is dead. That’s when Judy falls over and groans from the pain of her terminal disease. Judy tells Jen that she wants to stay in Mexico to die. She will not return to the States. The following day Jen wakes up. There is a note left for her. Judy is gone. She sailed the boat into the ocean, just like the man she felt was a father figure to her that never came back.

Jen drivers back to the states, in all things, that 66 Mustang and that cat. She imagines Judy is in the seat next to her, and she tells Jen she will never leave her. Jen is wearing the bracelet. Jen makes it back in time for Henry’s concert. She cries as all the paper cranes are hanging from the ceiling that Judy made. Jen has the baby and decides to call her Joey instead of Judy just in case the child is gender fluid someday.

Dead to Me season 3, episode 10 ending – what does Jen tell Ben?

Dead to Me season 3 ends with Ben, Charlie, and Henry playing in the pool while Jen watches while tending to the adorable Joey. Ben comes out of the pool and sits next to Jen. He says he thought he would never be happy again when Steve died. Jen looks over at Joey, then at the cat pawing at the guest house door. That’s when Jen looks over at Ben and has something to say.

What does Jen say to Ben in the Dead to Me season 3 finale? She says, “Ben, I have to tell you something.” And that’s how Dead to Me season 3 ends. We can only assume Jen will admit to Ben what happened on she murdered her brother in a fit of rage because he was an emotionally abusive scumbag. The ending made me think someone should have been wearing a members-only jacket, The Sopranos style.
