We discuss whether there will be a season 2 of the Prime Video series Three Pines and its renewed or canceled status.

Created by Emilia di Girolamo (Deceit), Three Pines is a Prime Video adaptation of a series of mystery novels by Louise Penny, which follow Chief Inspector Armand Gamache (Alfred Molina) and his murder investigations in the titular Three Pines, a picturesque village in Canada. The crime series splits each mystery into two installments over four weeks, exploring a new murder case each week, which interweaves with an ongoing case that involves the disappearance of Blue Two-Rivers (Anna Lambe), a young Indigenous woman.

Armand uses his out-of-the-box thinking and detailed knowledge of the human psyche to hunt out clues that other detectives would miss. He connects with the locals and those involved in the case on a deeper level, as he figures out who the murderer actually is. This means interrogating the many suspects put forward, who all seem to have suspicious backstories of their own. Three Pines may look like a quaint, little village, but it is home to some rather unusual and nasty characters.

The Chief is teamed with the equally talented Jean-Guy Beauvoir (Rossif Sutherland) and Isabelle Lacoste (Elle-Maija Tailfeathers), with bumbling local Yvette Nichol always on hand to assist in their investigations. The village locals include an author who owns a pet goose and many bitter rivals, who all have their reasons for committing such crimes.

The series has divided critics and viewers alike. It has been praised for its intellectual mysteries and cinematic visuals, while critics were disappointed with the poorly constructed characters and cliched storylines, ones that we’ve seen many times before. With such a polarizing response, will Prime Video be quick to renew the series for a second outing?

Will there be a season 2 of Three Pines – renewed or canceled status

At this moment in time, Amazon have not confirmed whether there will be a season 2 of Three Pines.

Three Pines is currently pending renewal over at Prime Video. The company must have thought they were onto a winner, developing a much-loved crime series with the talented Alfred Molina in the starring role. Unfortunately, die-hard fans of the novels have also had mixed reactions to the series, bringing up a rushed pace, odd tone, and poor casting as the main issues. This polarizing response may put Prime Video off renewing the series, although everybody does seem to be talking about it. Controversial or not, it has been a rather popular show for the streaming service, and that is sometimes more important than anything else.

I’m going to put my neck on the line with this one and say that I think it will be renewed for a second season. The series has its pluses and its fan base already. I think audiences are still hungry for more murder mysteries, and Three Pines definitely delivers on that front. Hopefully, if given the chance, they can improve the writing as they move into a second season. Everything else seems to be in place, with Molina’s impeccable performance and Prime Video’s encouraging budget making for a cinematic feast in the visuals department. As always, we’ll keep you posted on any updates on the pending renewal of Three Pines.

Fantastic show! This should be an ongoing series! I’ve read the whole series and can separate the episodes from the books and love both. I’m sure all readers have formed their own perceptions of each character and may not approve of all of the casting…but watch the show as a separate entity and enjoy both. Molina is perfect!

I love, love, love, the Louise Penny Three Pines novels. The Amazon Prime series is so enjoyable. Molina and the other actors do a fantastic job as well. The first 2 episodes were great 3 and 4th a little less so, but I kudos to the script/screen writers who somehow manage to fit these stories in the time slots allowed! PLEASE, more, more, more!
And if you are a reader or audiobook listener and have not had the pleasure of experiening these novels in book/audio form, do yourself a favor and try them, I love the narrators of these books and the longer the better, as I always hate “my visit” to Three Pines to end.

We’ve watched the series, have read all Louise Penny’s novels. The Three Pines characters are true to the books. However, as good as Molina is as an actor he is not Inspector Gamache. We would watch a second season even though a bit disappointed.

I was very disappointed in the series. It did not relate well to the books at all. The characters are so well rounded in the books but not in the series. I didn’t mind a little deviation from the the books but the story lines were hardly recognizable. The actors were great especially Gamanch, Beauvoir and Lacoste.

I love this show, PLEASE keep it going! However, who is the idiot who writes “…the Amazon have….” Many other reviewers copy that ugly mistake. Are your writers even grade school graduates?

Loved the books and though no tv series could fully do justice to them, this one does very well. I would love to see another season! Molina embodies the compassion of Gamache, so I can forgive his not being quebecois. Also love the Nicole character. It was important to bring residential schools into the story and helps explain why the house was innately evil.

Yes, yes, please have a second season. Loved the first season. I am so tired of the shot-um-ups, car chases and explosions. It was so nice watching a series that engaging and thoughtful.
