We discuss whether there will be a season 2 of the Hulu series Welcome to Chippendales and its renewed or cancelled status.

We have reached the end of season 1 of Welcome to Chippendales. The Hulu series told the story of Somen Banerjee (Kumail Nanjiani), the founder of Chippendales, in eight drama-filled episodes. So the question is, will the series be back for a second season? We share everything we know below.

Welcome to Chippendales tells the story of Indian immigrant Somen Banerjee, who overcame so many obstacles to launch Chippendales. The series has been met with some excellent reviews as it sits at 75% critics score and 65% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

I reviewed the series for Ready Steady Cut weekly and was hooked from the first episode. As the story further explored the life of Banerjee, I couldn’t believe what had gone down and how it all exploded. Welcome to Chippendales tells the story in a way that highlights how sometimes when people get to the top, they can’t help but become full of themselves and feel untouchable.

While I know the series was based on a true story, I felt the final two episodes played out really badly. They had some strong emotional connection to the story and the people, but they completely ripped the rug from underneath us in this sudden switch in episode 7. Because of that, the series was heading for greatness but fell a little short. However, I can’t rave enough about Kumail Nanjiani and Murray Bartlett’s performances in the series. The connection these two shared was electric and very much the reason I was excited to tune in every week. Juliette Lewis was brilliant as well.

Now for the million-dollar question, has Welcome to Chippendales been renewed for a second season? We share what we know so far.

Will there be a Season 2 of the Hulu series Welcome to Chippendales – renewed or canceled status

As of right now, nothing has been said about the status of a second season of the series by Hulu.

At the top of the article, I mentioned the critics and audiences who enjoyed the series. But after watching the show, you know that any part of a second season would be without two of the main components of what made Welcome to Chippendales the show it was.

First, we know that Somen Banerjee took his own life mere hours before his sentencing. Then, of course, we found out that he did that because if he died before his sentencing, Irene (his ex-wife and mother of his daughter) would get all the money instead of the FBI because they charged the crimes as Rico. And in episode 7, we saw Nick De Noia being shot and killed. So there would be no Kumail Nanjiani or Murray Bartlett in these roles. Mainly since they explored the entire score of their run with Chippendales.

The only thing they might explore is life after these two. However, I am not sure that will warrant enough of a series people would be interested in. However, I could see a few-part documentary about this story in the near future.
