Since it first started airing in 2016, Mob Psycho 100 has been a fan-favorite series. All three seasons of the series have consistently scored above an 8.0 on MyAnimeList and often maintain positive reviews from fans and critics.
It’s not hard to understand why this anime is so popular once you’ve seen it. The series follows Shigeo “Mob” Kageyama (voiced by Setsuo Ito), a middle school student with unbridled psychic potential. Fear of hurting others causes Mob to repress his powers at an early age. In an effort to learn control, Mob enlists the help of Reigen Arataka (voiced by Takahiro Sakurai), a business owner and con man who only claims to have psychic powers but is surprisingly insightful and good at giving advice. It’s a show with a lot of heart that watches Mob grow from a shy, reserved student into a strong psychic and friend.
Like the previous two seasons, season 3 of Mob Psycho 100 has been a fun watch, but it’s hard not to feel a certain sense of finality as they wrap up all of the loose ends and open arcs. With only 34 episodes out, there’s still plenty of time to catch up and enjoy the series before the finale. It’s an easy watch for any anime fan, especially those who favor supernatural genres.
Will there be a season 4 of Mob Psycho 100 – renewed or canceled status
Sadly, Mob Psycho 100 is neither renewed nor canceled, and will probably be ending after its third season. This has likely always been the plan, as there are no more manga arcs left to adapt for the screen, but that doesn’t always mean an anime series is over for good. Plenty of series have ended and come back with a sequel season years later, like Bleach, The Devil is a Part-Timer, or even Classroom of the Elite. However, that isn’t the standard.
Although there has definitely been some major fan interest in season 4 of Mob Psycho 100, it’s not something viewers should get their hopes up for any time soon. Without additional source material, it is highly unlikely the series will ever see another season. That is not to say that another season couldn’t be produced with an original storyline. Feature films have also been popular lately, with series like My Hero Academia frequently putting out original movies that were not necessarily based on manga arcs.
There is also the potential for a spin-off or special focusing on Reigen. In 2018, ONE published a 7 chapter spin-off following the antics of Reigen and the Spirits and Such Consultation Office that many fans hope to one day see animated.
Considering how successful and popular Mob Psycho 100 is for Studio Bones, it would be hard to believe they would just let it die off so easily. I wouldn’t expect any news here soon unless they immediately announce a new project in the post-credits scene of the season 3 finale. However, maybe in a year or two, Studio Bones may announce a Mob Psycho 100 side project. Fans would surely flock toward whatever additional content they can get their hands on.
