Summary
This adorable episode finds a good way to clean up some loose ends that would’ve otherwise impaired the show in the future.
We recap the Crunchyroll anime series Buddy Daddies Season 1 Episode 4, “What Will Be, Will Be,” which contains spoilers.
After a rocky second episode, Buddy Daddies came back with a much stronger narrative in Episode 3 that left fans feeling something by the end of it. While Miri’s mother did not turn out to be the savior fans may have expected, Rei (voiced by Koki Uchiyama) warmed up to Miri (voiced by Hina Kino), fully embracing his newfound title of “Papa Rei”. Although both assassins have had a taste of fatherhood, things are definitely about to change as they find themselves taking care of Miri full-time. How that will affect their jobs only remains to be seen, but it should make for some surprises.
Buddy Daddies Season 1 Episode 4 Recap
The episode opens with Miri trying to help with various activities around the house, like cleaning or watering plants, only to mess them up. Exhausted, Kazuki and Rei take her to the park, where they see a daycare van, sparking an idea. They begin calling nearby schools, but none seem to be accepting new students.
After having no luck, Kazuki and Rei take Miri to the Government Office to get assistance enrolling her in school. They are told that after filling out the necessary documents, Miri should be able to start school relatively soon.
At home, Kazuki stresses over providing government documents as an assassin. When Miri begins to cry about not going to daycare, Kazuki settles on getting forged documents instead. While they await official acceptance, they decide to look at daycares.
Daycare interviews
In the first interview, Miri overshares everything from the forgeries to the guns, forcing Kazuki and Rei to cut it short. They instruct her to let them do all of the talking at the subsequent interviews.
During the next interview, the instructors are more interested in talking to Miri about her two fathers. She praises them, adding that they don’t do any “bad business” at all. Kazuki quickly covers their tracks, saying they are something like city cleaners. When the instructors tell them that they’ll do anything to help ease their burden, they realize that Miri has been accepted into the school.

Kazuki, Rei, and Miri take a trip to the department store to pick up everything she needs for daycare. Kazuki explains to Rei the importance of making a good first impression and “establishing dominance” amongst ordinary people, or people who did not grow up wealthy and essentially out of touch, like Rei. His solution, as someone who grew up lacking, is to load up on name brands to impress the other adults. They buy an excessive amount of supplies and struggle when they realize they are now required to label them all.
How does Miri’s first day of daycare go?
On Miri’s first day, the trio shows up quite overdressed, attracting the attention of the other female parents. They’re given a tour of the building as the instructor explains the various things that are expected of parents. Things seem fine until Kazuki and Rei leave, and Miri struggles to get the other children to include her. When Kazuki and Rei pick her up later, asking how her day went, Miri replies that she does not know yet.
Buddy Daddies Season 1 Episode 4 Ending Explained
As Miri continues to attend daycare, she seems to enjoy herself less and less every time Kazuki comes to pick her up. He shows up early one evening and observes Miri sitting alone, when the instructor, Miss Anna, approaches him. She tells him that her clothes make her stand out too much and suggests a different store with much cheaper clothing. Kazuki sends her to school in a more normal outfit and sticks around for a while to help her attract friends. That evening when he comes to pick her up, Miri tells him that she had fun.
This episode gave me precisely what I’d been hoping for so far this season: a solution for what to do with Miri while on missions. With the implementation of daycare, I think the show will be able to balance the father and assassin storyline significantly better.
The jokes seem to have gotten a bit more organic and better overall with time. This series is definitely improving after hitting a bump in the beginning, showing a lot of promise for what is to come.
