The Netflix series The Recruit is an entirely original spy show from creator Alexi Hawley (The Rookie), with Hollywood heavyweight Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity) on directing duties for the first two installments. This eight-part series focuses on rookie CIA lawyer Owen Hendricks, played by Noah Centineo (To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before), who finds himself entangled in a messy partnership with a murderous criminal in his first two weeks on the job.
As Owen navigates the murky world of Russian spies, CIA protocols, and dodgy White House deals, he discovers just who he can and cannot trust along the way. This is both inside the agency and outside, in the big bad world beyond. Owen finds romance and heartache, while jet-setting across the globe in the high-stakes world of espionage. Colton Dunn (Superstore) and Aarti Mann (The Big Bang Theory) play his untrustworthy co-workers, who are out to trip him up on any occasion. While Laura Haddock (from the Guardians of the Galaxy films) portrays the suspicious asset Owen is tied to, one who is ready to expose many pieces of classified information if she isn’t freed from jail.
Overall, The Recruit is a fun and entertaining slice of espionage with a playful protagonist at its center in Owen Hendricks, played effortlessly by the ever-charming Centineo. The opening episodes introduce viewers to this juxtaposing narrative, as sarcastic wit meets violent action. But as the series progresses the show descends into the ridiculous, forcing romance into a rather unrealistic storyline. The series is sure to have its fans though and those that enjoy this style of action-adventure will be eager to know if there is going to be a second season.
Will there be a season 2 of The Recruit – renewed or canceled status

Netflix confirmed on January 26th, 2023, that The Recruit has been renewed for Season 2. The second season will continue from the cliffhanger of Season 1.
Update on Jan 5th, 2023: At the present, there has been no official announcement from Netflix on whether The Recruit will be renewed for a second season or if the series has been canceled after just the one season. This is the kind of crowd-pleasing property that is likely to be renewed though. I think Netflix will wait to see how the viewers find this original series before jumping to any conclusions, but it is definitely looking promising for the spy adventure series. I would expect Netflix to announce a renewal and a second season within the next couple of weeks or so.
It’s been a good few months for Netflix, who have had runaway successes with Wednesday, Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, and The Watcher. The two Ryan Murphy projects have already been renewed by the streaming platform, and Wednesday is sure to be handed a second season after surpassing Stranger Things’ historic viewing records. Shows like The Recruit may not be as well-loved as the aforementioned properties, but with Noah Centineo in the lead role and the series’ fun-natured vibe overall, it would seem that Netflix are definitely onto another winner. The Recruit Season 2 Release Date
Netflix have not confirmed whether there will be a Season 2 of The Recruit yet. However, if it was renewed, we’d predict that the second installment will be released at the end of 2023, around December time.
