Summary

Episode 15 throws another spanner at the audience and one that feels the most heartbreaking so far.

We recap the Netflix K-Drama series The Interest of Love Season 1 Episode 15, which contains spoilers.

There’s been plenty of misdirects in this romantic K-Drama series (if you want to claim it is romantic). A question a lot of viewers have debated is whether Ahn Su-yeong (Moon Ga-youngslept with Gyeon-pil. There may be a last-minute twist, but judging by the events of this episode, it feels like that never happened, and she was trying to find a way out of her situation with Ha Sang-su (Yoo Yeon-seok) and Jong-hyeon (Jung Ga-ram) before disappearing.

The biggest question that remains as we enter the last two episodes is — will there be a happy ending for Sang-su and Su-yeong? By now, you’d know. This K-Drama is really leaving it until the very last minute.

The Interest of Love Season 1 Episode 15 recap

Season 1 Episode 15 opens with Ahn Su-yeong looking at her work desk one last time before she leaves. She has resigned. Episode 15 then flits to Sang-su visiting her apartment and having that sudden realization that she has left town. He’s devastated.

Mi-gyeong is also leaving the branch and going abroad

At work the next day, colleagues learn that Mi-gyeong is also moving branch (and abroad). Another character leaving. She tells Sang-su that she is not leaving because of him and that a chance to work abroad is “lucky.” Sang-su admits to her that he had no idea that Su-yeong was leaving. Strangely, Mi-gyeong takes no delight in what has happened, further evidencing that she’s a good person.

Gyeon-pil explains to Mi-gyeong why he broke up with her

After a work dinner, Mi-gyeong tells Gyeon-pil that she and Sang-su will never be together again. She brings up the time Gyeon-pil broke up with her and how it is still painful. Gyeon-pil looks very uncomfortable but admits that he had to break up with her because he was told (by her family) that he wasn’t worthy enough to like her. His pride was crushed for not being brave enough to stay with her. Mi-gyeong tells Gyeon-pil to stop pretending like he does not care because it makes him look desperate (she’s right).

Gyeon-pil tries to get Sang-su to listen to the full voice recording between him and Su-yeong

The next day, Gyeon-pil tries to explain to Sang-su what happened between him and Su-yeong, but Sang-su does not want to talk about it. Instead, he ends the evening early with Gyeon-pil. It’s way too painful for him. On the same evening, Sang-su learns where Su-yeong may have fled to.

While Sang-su continues to wallow, Gyeon-pil sends him a voice recording from the night. However, he cannot bring himself to listen to it. Gyeon-pil insists he should listen to it. However, he cannot do it. Later on in the episode, he deletes the recording.

Is Gyeon-pil trying to prove to Sang-su that he did not sleep with Su-yeong? By now, he should just tell him if that’s the case rather than beat around the bush.

Sang-su takes Mi-gyeong to the airport in a bittersweet farewell

With Mi-gyeong also leaving, Sang-su gives her a ride. They managed to have a warm, friendly journey. Sang-su drops her off at the airport. It’s a bittersweet ending for Mi-gyeong. Not only is she feeling the pain from her family, but she also finds herself socially in a difficult place. She put all her eggs in one basket for Sang-su, and it backfired. Despite her desperation in previous episodes, you have to feel sorry for her.

Su-yeong’s mother cheated, not the father, in SHOCKING twist

We finally catch up with Su-yeong, who visits her brother’s memorial. She learns from her brother’s friend that he saw her mother with another man on the day her brother died. This is new information for Su-yeong. A family secret that has been kept from her. It turns out her father was trying to settle an agreement with a woman who was trying to sue his wife for adultery. Su-yeong’s father took the blame all this time to protect the family and his wife. Su-yeong’s mother is the person who cheated in her marriage, not the father.

This is a seismic moment for Su-yeong, who has blamed her father for the family breaking down most of her life. She deals with a lot of emotional pain in Episode 15. Su-yeong tries her best to bare no resentment and offers to help her mother get her leg treated.

Sang-su finds Su-yeong (again)

Sang-su travels and finds Su-yeong on the beach. They’ve been to a beach many times before. Su-yeong is shellshocked, and Sang-su asks her why she disappeared. Tears run down his face.

Sang-su admits he was drunk when he decided to find her, and he still smells of the booze he was drinking. They sit peacefully on the beach together. A scenario we’ve seen many times. Peace. That’s what they provided each other. Sang-su gives Su-eong her bank lanyard. He then reveals her resignation letter has not been processed yet and that it is not too late to change her mind. She’s technically on vacation time.

Su-yeong believes it is too late and throws her lanyard into the sea. Like a crazy man, Sang-su heads into the sea and grabs it for her.

Following this, Sang-su and Su-yeong spend quality time together. It’s incredible how much they cannot see how comfortable they are with each other. They are able to be present and listen to each other for prolonged periods of time. True love.

When the day ends, Sang-su thanks her for her time. She tells him that she will see him “tomorrow” (we’ve heard this before). Sang-su stays over in the same area. Su-yeong decides to head to Sang-su’s place for drinks.

The Interest of Love Season 1 Episode 15 Ending Explained

Eventually, Sang-su asks Su-yeong why she ran away (again). She admits she was afraid. She admits she wanted to hate him, but she couldn’t. Su-yeong asks Sang-su why he “hesitated at the hotel.” Sang-su admits he lacked confidence and wondered if he could be responsible for another person. Su-yeong then asks if she was a misfortune for him, and he rejects that idea and calls her a “variable.”

These words touch Su-yeong, and she leans in and kisses Sang-su on the lips. Sang-su cannot resist, and he kisses her back. It’s been a long time coming.

The next day, Sang-su heads to the bus station to return to Seoul. Su-yeong is there to say goodbye. She thanks him for coming and assures him that she will rethink her decision to leave the bank.

As Sang-su walks onto the bus, he turns around and sees Su-yeong looking at him, eyes filled up with tears. They look longingly at each other. They’ve found each other’s person, but there’s so much sadness mixed with happiness. So much time was lost, but there is so much time left to spend together.

And then The Interest of Love Season 1 Episode 15 ends in a dramatic twist – Sang-su narrates, “that was my last moment with Su-yeong.” A stunning narration, a stunning twist.

Will Sang-su and Su-yeong ever see each other again? Or is this another misdirection? Episode 15 throws another spanner at the audience and one that feels the most heartbreaking so far.
