Summary

An adorably hilarious episode that shows in the appropriate setting, Miri can carry a storyline as well.

We recap the Crunchyroll anime series Buddy Daddies Season 1 Episode 6, “Love is Blind,” which contains spoilers.

With each passing week, Kazuki (voiced by Toshiyuki Toyonaga) and Rei (voiced by Koki Uchiyama) seem to get the hang of raising a child more and more. Although things have been looking up for them recently in that department, they’ve been struggling to handle cases. While Kyutaro seems willing to help out with Miri (voiced by Hina Kino)and cut the guys some slack, it’s only a matter of time before their personal and professional lives begin to intersect. Here’s hoping there are no more Miri-related mishaps to get in the way of work, but if this anime has shown us anything, that scenario is highly unlikely.

Buddy Daddies Season 1 Episode 6 Recap

The episode opens with Kazuki wondering if he is too lenient of a parent as he watches the news. After a conversation with Rei, he decides he is going to be more attentive, so Miri doesn’t grow up to be a bad person.

When he arrives to pick Miri up from daycare, her teacher, Ms. Anna, asks to speak with him because she heard Miri got into a fight with a friend that day. She was told it was Miri who hit first, but she cannot confirm since she did not see the fight. She hopes maybe Kazuki can talk to Miri to get to the bottom of it.

Why is Miri upset with Kazuki?

At home, Kazuki tries to ask Miri what happened at school and if she got into a fight. She never admits to being in a fight. All she offers is that a kid named Taiga was being bad. He continues asking, which only upsets Miri, as she insists she did nothing wrong. She eventually gets so upset she runs out of the room while telling Kazuki that she hates him.

Despite packing a special field trip lunch to get back on her good side, Miri is still angry with Kazuki the next day. She even insists on Rei taking her to school.

Lunch Delivery Delimmas

After realizing he forgot to pack her lunch, Kazuki insists they find Miri on her field trip to the zoo to deliver it to her. The problem is they have to be sneaky, as the daycare specifically requests parents not attend the trip.

At the same time, Miri and her friends are once again harassed by Taiga, and the children wind up separated from the rest of the class. Realizing they are lost, Kazuki and Rei follow closely as Miri tries to lead her friends back to the group without directly interfering. As they observe, they overhear Miri calling the other boy “Taiga” and remember that is who she fought with.

While continuing the search for their class, Miri notices a man trying to take food from a cart without paying. She stops him, noticing that the food did not “beep” when he tried to take it, giving the clerk enough time to come back and catch him. Irritated, the thief walks away, but not without promising to get her back.

By the time Miri and her friends decide to stop for lunch, Kazuki still has not found a way to sneak it to her. Luckily things work out when Taiga offers to share with her after bonding over video games and apologizing for being mean before.

The thief returns for revenge

While eating lunch, the thief from earlier grabs Miri, demanding she and her friends hand over their lunches. Taiga grabs his arm, forcing the thief to let her go but getting caught in the process. The thief then pulls out a gun and aims it at the children.

Buddy Daddies Season 1 Episode 6 Ending Explained

Before the thief can act, Kazuki and Rei appear behind him in mascot disguises. His attempt to fight them is useless, as they easily disarm the thief.

Eventually, Ms. Anna and the children find each other. She is surprised to see Miri and Taiga getting along, but it turns out that Miri had only hit Taiga on accident the day before. At home, Kazuki apologizes for forgetting her lunch and being upset with her while Miri requests to eat the lunch he forgot to pack.

The episode ends with a new character named Karin walking into Kyutaro’s cafe.

While I’m never a huge fan of filler in such short seasons, this was one of the funnier episodes of the series so far. The running gags are so much better now that the storyline is more grounded. Of course, assassin parents are still a crazy concept, but as they try to do the right thing as Miri’s guardians, Kazuki and Rei become more relatable characters whose realistic struggles are easy to find funny. It makes the wilder aspects of the storyline more enjoyable as well. You know these scenarios would never happen, but you want to see how they’re going to play out anyway because the characters are entertaining to watch.

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed a Miri-centered episode. This felt like just the right amount of danger for her character. Also, we learned that she’s actually learned a lot more from Kazuki and Rei than we thought, so maybe seeing her in a mission setting again won’t feel as dangerous and distracting as it did in the beginning of the series. We’ll see how she progresses throughout the second half of the season.
