Mission Majnu is set just before and during the Indo-Pakistani War this addition to the spy thriller genre tells the story of a foreign intelligence agent whose mission is to unearth secret nuclear testing conducted by the Pakistani government. If you’re among those who enjoyed streaming Mission Manju or Indian action flicks are your usual go-to, here are a few movies like it, that I think you might want to check out.

Jogi (2022)

While Jogi isn’t exactly a spy thriller, the action is set during a tumultuous time in Indian history, specifically the anti-Sikh riots of 1984. The film follows the titular character on a mission to protect his entire community from falling victim to the violence surrounding them. In my review at Ready Steady Cut review, I described the film as “a riveting, action-packed film showing how compassion and friendship can win even in the face of extreme adversity.”

Bhuj: The Pride of India (2021)

Also set during the Indo-Pakistani War, this movie is loosely based on the life of an Indian Air Force Leader named Vijay Karnik. Bhuj tells the story of how the military leader reconstructed a blown-out airbase with the help of some luck and a few hundred local women. While this feature wasn’t well-received by critics, it might be worth streaming if you’d like to see more content about that particular era in Indian history after watching Mission Majnu.

Ek Tha Tiger (2012)

In this Hindi-language action movie, Salman Khan plays a spy who goes undercover to retrieve sensitive information before it gets into the wrong hands. The 2012 spy film isn’t based on real-life events, but it does share a similar plotline with Mission Majnu. You can stream Ek Tha Tiger right now on Prime Video.

Baby (2015)

Baby is a 2015 spy action thriller about a group of special intelligence officers on a mission to eliminate terrorist threats. Critics quickly praised this film’s writing, cinematography, and fantastic action sequences.

Drishyam (2013)

In this highly-acclaimed action thriller, a father must find a way to protect his family after they accidentally commit a murder. Unfortunately for them, the victim happens to be the son of a police detective. While this title is more of a thriller than an action flick, it does include characters taking unusual steps to secure their freedom and features several nail-biting sequences. Following its release, Drishyam spanned several remakes and a sequel.
