It’s back! And while the wait hasn’t quite seemed so long since The Book of Boba Fett essentially morphed into The Mandalorian Season 2.5 without warning, it’s still nice to see Mando and Grogu back on our screens. With a redemption arc, reams of fan service to play with, and more appetite than ever for small-screen Star Wars after recent successes, the latest season of The Mandalorian has all the potential of a being another mega-hit for the House of Mouse.
Here’s what happened in The Mandalorian Season 3, Episode 1:
- Mando made a stylish return by saving the Armorer and the rest of The Tribe from a giant CGI crocodile and announced his intentions to bathe in the Living Waters beneath the mines of Mandalore in order to atone for willingly removing his mask in the Season 2 finale.
- Mando returned to Nevarro with plans to rebuild IG-11, who is now a courtyard statue, since he needs a trustworthy droid to help him explore the surface of Mandalore. Greef Karga is now a High Magistrate, and Nevarro has evolved into a bustling trade spur.
- Initial attempts to rebuild IG-11 revert him to his original programming, and he almost kills Grogu, but Mando is still adamant about getting Nevarro’s Anzellan droidsmiths to repair him. However, it’ll need an additional part that Mando needs to go hunting for.
- After annoying some pirates, Mando runs into their king, Gorian Shard, during his escape from the system.
- At the end of the episode, Mando paid a visit to Bo-Katan, who is sulking after being abandoned by her sect after failing to return with the Darksaber.

Predictions
While there is (predictably) no official synopsis, we can nonetheless make some logical assumptions about where things may go in the future:
- Mando’s first order of business will probably be to retrieve the necessary part to repair IG-11.
- After annoying Gorian Shard, it’s likely he’ll become a persistent antagonist. He may torment Greef Karga on Nevarro in Mando’s absence or pursue Mando through the galaxy.
- We got some mention of Cara Dune being in the Special Forces now, which sounds like a way to write her out of things, but you never know.
- Mando will presumably into the rest of Bo-Katan’s sect and lead them with the Darksaber. Will there be a leadership dispute?
