We discuss 10 Movies like Fight Club that you must watch. Add these well-recommended thrilling movies to your watch list.

Fight Club is the 1999 cult classic film starring Brad Pitt and Edward Norton. The story surrounds an office worker unhappy with his mundane, capitalistic lifestyle. Our insomniac protagonist forms an underground fight club with his new friend Tyler, a shady, careless soap salesman. The film has twists and turns and is one everyone should watch at least once. The cast includes legendary singers Meatloaf, Jared Leto, and renowned actress Helena Bonham Carter.

Based on the book of the same name, when the film was first released, it gathered a lot of negative press, as its themes and storyline seemed to be teaching the wrong lessons to its audiences.

However, it now has a huge cult following as the film displays excellent writing, acting, and production. The themes in the movie consist of consumerist culture and discussions around masculinity. Fight Club is directed by David Fincher, who is known for other excellent crime-thriller films such as Gone Girl, Zodiac, and Se7en.

Here we’ve created a list of the ten best similar movies like Fight Club.

10 Movies like Fight Club that you must watch

Momento (2000)

This is one confusing, mind-boggling film to watch after Fight Club. Leonard Shelby, an insurance investigator, suffers from anterograde amnesia, and the last thing he fully remembers is a man he thinks killed his wife. By using notes and tattoos, he hunts for this man, hoping to get revenge. Similar to Fight Club, this film uses themes of mental health and taking a mundane everyday man on a quest for something more in his life.

Requiem for a Dream (2001)

Similar to Fight Club, Requiem for a Dream is a cult classic. Known for its trippy cinematography and excellent acting, this story follows Sara, a widow who lives a retired life and develops an obsession to lose weight and starts taking pills. However, she gets addicted to the medication, seriously affecting her mental health. Again we’re seeing a film surrounding mental health and the effects life can have on people.

The Machinist (2005)

Trevor is riddled with psychological problems and is an insomniac who has not slept for months and experiences unusual occurrences at work and home. A strange man follows him everywhere, but only Trevor seems to notice him. The film is also well known for Christians Bale’s extreme body transformation to play the character.

Source Code (2011)

This film see’s Army pilot Stevens on a mysterious trail to track down the bomber of the Chicago commuter train. The protagonist is in an alternate reality, in a simulation, almost in a groundhog day until his mission is complete. In Fight Club, Edward Norton’s character lives in the reality he’s created to escape the everyday.

Shutter Island (2010)

If you love films with serious drama and insane twists, Shutter Island is the one to watch after Fight Club. Teddy Daniels and Chuck Aule, two US marshals, are sent to an asylum on a remote island to investigate the disappearance of a patient. Alone on the island, they find more than what they bargained for.

Mulholland Drive (2002)

This film is fantastic for female protagonists and female solid written characters. The story surrounds Rita, a dark-haired amnesiac, and Betty, a perky blonde actress, who team up to find clues about Rita’s accident and ascertain her true identity. Similar to Fight Club, this film has a dramatic twist, shocking and sewing audiences, making this film another psychological cult classic. One to watch after Fight Club

The Butterfly Effect (2004)

The lead Evan gets severe headaches that cause him to suffer blackouts, and during these, he can travel back in time and alter the past, which causes drastic changes in his present life. This story makes you think about how small things can have big effects – the notion that the world is interconnected. It’s a film that will quickly grip you, make you think, and become a favorite.

Mr. Nobody (2009)

In a world where humans are immortal, 118-year-old Nemo is the last mortal to be interviewed to recount his life. Nemo goes through different realities, and the audience is trying to figure out which one he lives in. Similar to Fight Club this cult film has themes about actions having consequences.

The Prestige (2006)

This film is a personal favorite of mine, and like Fight Club has an intense friendship/rivalry and an insane twist in the story. Two friends who are fellow magicians become bitter enemies after a sudden tragedy. As they devote themselves to this rivalry, they make sacrifices that bring them fame. However, these have unholy consequences.

Donnie Darko (2011)

This cult film has become a favorite amongst all teens navigating their dismal teenage years and is famous for its dark themes and amazing soundtrack. Donnie Darko is an awkward teenager who sees a figure in a bunny costume only he can see, called Frank, who informs Donnie that the world will end in 28 days, 6 hours, 42 minutes, and 12 seconds. With a twisted ending, the film is one to watch after Fight Club.
