Truth Be Told keeps doling out more shocking twists and surprising revelations as we draw ever closer to the season finale. In “Darkness Declares the Glory of Light,” Aames (David Lyons) digs deeper into the Emily Mills case, even after she has been found safe and sound.
Poppy (Octavia Spencer) and Markus (Mekhi Phifer) hunt for clues to Finney’s overall involvement in the sex trafficking ring, and Eva (Gabrielle Union) takes matters into her own hands. It’s an uneven installment but one filled with eventful twists nonetheless. Here’s what happened in Truth Be Told Season 3 Episode 8:
- Poppy and Markus look into Finney and Bill Ochoa’s finances. Markus discovers hidden cameras used during the mixer and asks his friend Frankie to find the footage. Poppy tells Markus about Shreve not being her biological father.
- Shreve accidentally tells Sybil about Lee’s involvement in hacking Questeur accounts.
- Aames shows Emily and her parents all the evidence he has gathered. Emily’s dad, Peter, was in debt to Marv, his drug dealer. Peter used Victor to siphon money from his wife’s account. Emily found out about Peter’s debt and staged her own kidnapping. She told Marv to ‘find’ her and take the reward money to pay off Peter’s debts. Emily wanted to become famous from this scheme.
- Poppy checks up on Eva, who is depressed. Eva wants Poppy to release her interview, but Poppy worries it will ruin Eva’s career. They argue.
- Melanie and Trini tell Zarina they are going for ice cream but visit Aubrey in jail instead. Trini realizes how manipulative Aubrey is, and they split up.
- The video files Frankie finds show that Finney was being blackmailed. Poppy meets with Finney, who believes he’s been recorded. He asks to meet with Poppy later.
- Eva finds Finney and confronts him in an underground car park. Finney denies knowing Eva, but she lays out their history together anyway. He looks for her branding tattoo, but Eva has had it removed.
- Finney is run over in the same car park by an unknown killer.
- Poppy and Markus are told about Finney’s death. Markus is angry about the injustice and says it has ruined his life. Poppy comforts him, and the two kiss.
- Shreve proves to Poppy that her biological father was a horrible man. Poppy’s Uncle tells her that Alexander is controlling and abusive towards her mother.
- Poppy tells Eva about Finney’s death. She doesn’t seem surprised or upset. They apologize to one another. Poppy asks Eva to help her find Finney’s killer and who was blackmailing him.

- All the signs point towards Eva being the killer, but this may be misdirection.
- Poppy and Eva will team up again and start investigating Finney’s involvement in the trafficking ring further.
- Markus has started drinking again and even made a pass at Poppy. He is beginning to unravel. Trini will tell her mother that she saw Markus drinking. They will try to help, but he will only get worse.
- Aames will have Emily and Peter arrested for their involvement in the con. Aames will be rewarded for his excellent investigative skills and may be promoted.
- Poppy will slowly start to suspect Eva of killing Finney. Eva will eventually confess in the end.
