Summary

A solid episode embraces more serialized storytelling and capably sets up next week’s two-part finale.

This recap of Star Wars: The Bad Batch Season 2 Episode 14, “Tipping Point”, contains spoilers.

Despite the fact it’s clearly designed to shuffle around the necessary pieces for next week’s double-bill finale, I actually rather enjoyed “Tipping Point” and thought it was one of the better episodes of the season, especially in how it embraced serialized storytelling more openly and tied some of the different subplots together.

While the main focus is on Crosshair’s conundrum as a prisoner of Doctor Hemlock and the Empire, this episode also brings Echo back into the fold alongside some other familiar clone troopers. So, let’s unpack what went down.

The Bad Batch Season 2 Episode 14 Recap

“Tipping Point” begins with Rex’s team, which now includes Echo, Fireball, and Gregor, who we met for the first time in Season 1 episode “War Mantle”, hijacking a prisoner transport ship where clones are being shipped to an unknown location. Among them is Howzer, the clone who worked with Senator Orn Fee Taa and Cham Syndulla in another Season 1 episode, “Devil’s Deal”.

Why does Hemlock want Omega?

Predictably the ship is bound for Tantiss, the base of operations of Doctor Hemlock, the flagrantly evil extremist who is still trying to strong-arm Nala Se by acquiring Omega. This is why he is torturing Crosshair, who is being held captive on Tantiss. The doctor promises him a fresh start if he reveals the location of Clone Force 99, which he refuses to do.

Later, when Emerie temporarily halts Crosshair’s torture, he’s able to grab a blaster and attempt an escape. He manages to send a coded transmission to the Bad Batch before he is eventually incapacitated by a toxin of Hemlock’s own design that Hemlock himself is immune to.

Both that transmission and Echo arrive on Pabu, where the Bad Batch are still holding up, helping out with the community and teaching Omega to fly. They’re also still debating remaining there indefinitely. Echo has oodles of encrypted data that he needs Tech’s help to crack.

The Bad Batch Season 2 Episode 14 Ending Explained

The data reveals more information about the ship – it was part of Hemlock’s Advanced Science Division, and we also learn Hemlock was formerly a Republic scientist who was expelled for being too unorthodox (read: bonkers) – and the transmission from Crosshair. The question now is whether it’s a trap like last time or a genuine distress call.

Since Clone Force 99 know that Crosshair is presently a guest of Hemlock on Tantiss, odds are that they’re going to head there to rescue him regardless of the risk.

As the episode closes, Crosshair once again refuses to reveal any information about Omega and returns to his torture.
