From Me to You: Kimi ni Todoke Season 1 Episode 12 Recap and Ending Explained

This article contains spoilers for the ending of From Me to You: Kimi ni Todoke Season 1. It particularly breaks down the events of From Me to You: Kimi ni Todoke Season 1 Episode 12.

From Me to You: Kimi ni Todoke is a live-action adaptation of the beloved manga series written and illustrated by Karuho Shiina. This is far from the first adaptation of the material, which has already been translated into an anime series, which ran for two seasons, and a live-action feature film.

The story revolves around Sawako, a good-natured but shy high school student who is cruelly nicknamed “Sadako” by her classmates, due to her resemblance to the ghoul from The Ring. Through popular student Kazehaya, Sawako is able to better understand herself and come out of her shell while her peers also begin to see her positive attributes and values.

Across twelve episodes, the slice-of-life drama develops various romantic relationships and personal predicaments as the students begin to consider their futures.

Here are some key takeaways and answers from the season’s ending.

From Me to You: Kimi ni Todoke Season 1 Ending Explained

Do Sawako and Kazehaya end up together?

This, of course, is the most essential question, since Sawako and Kazehaya are the show’s central couple. Both are fundamentally good people; she’s timid but generous, whereas he is popular and outgoing but, crucially, treats everyone equally.

The students begin as just friends as Kazehaya helps Sawako to come out of her shell. While their relationship is interfered with, particularly by Sawako’s love rival Kurumi, it remains stable and even begins to blossom into something more.

Sawako’s problem is that she tends to fret, and one of the most essential things Kazehaya teaches her is not to worry about rumors and petty matters and to remain true to herself and her beliefs.

It’s in this way that the two gradually form an authentic romantic connection, and begin a relationship that is eventually approved – after some misunderstandings between the two, naturally – by both families.

Of course, the anxieties and worries trouble the two, particularly as regards the future, since they’re attending separate colleges. Kazehaya enrolls locally to become a sports trainer while Sawako pursues her love of teaching others at Sapporo University. However, meaningfully, even after parting ways they nonetheless reunite right where they began.

Do Chizuru and Ryu end up together?

Best friends since childhood, Chizuru and Ryu have their own complicated relationship. The main obstacle here is that Chizuru has always had a crush on Ryu’s older brother Toru.

Another problem is that it’s somewhat difficult for the two of them to determine if their connection is purely platonic, like a brother and sister, or romantic. This is the general arc of their relationship throughout the season.

Ultimately, Chizuru and Ryu do end up together. They understand their feelings for one another finally, and while Ryu goes off to college to continue playing baseball, Chizuru promises to wait for him and the two agree to start a family together.
