Who are the Alamites in Star Wars? We explain the troll-like creatures on the planet Mandalore and will contain spoilers for The Mandalorian Season Three.

Star Wars is known for its many different alien species in its galaxy. Some of them, like the Mon Calamari, are friendly, but there are many dangerous types of aliens out there.

In The Mandalorian Season 3, Episode 2, audiences are introduced to a new group of terrifying aliens, the Alamites.

While Din is on his way to the Living Waters in the mines of Mandalore to redeem himself, he encounters this new species and is almost overwhelmed by their strength. But who are they, and where do they come from?

Who are the Alamites in Star Wars?

The Alamites are a humanoid species of around average height. They have grey, leathery skin, four green eyes, and tusks. They’re extremely strong and are capable of wielding basic weaponry and attack in groups, surprising and overwhelming opponents.

They look incredibly similar to the Morlocks from the 1960 film adaptation of the 1895 H.G. Wells novel The Time Machine.

It’s not known if this was intentional or not, but given that Star Wars is a melting pot of sci-fi, western, samurai, and fantasy elements, it’s quite likely that this was a nod to the classic sci-fi film.

Where are the Alamites from?

Alamites are new to Star Wars, but Bo-Katan Kryze explains that before the Great Purge, they lived in the Mandalorian wastelands between the domed cities of the planet’s inhabitants. They’re even known to eat humans. Once the Mandalorian capital of Sundari became a ruin, the Alamites made it their home.

It’s not explained where the Alamites came from, they could have always lived on the planet before it was colonized, or they might be some horrible mutation caused by the cycles of destruction on Mandalore.

Their existence helps add to why the Mandalorians live in the domed cities, as the Alamites are shown to be quite strong and would likely overrun any human that lived on the outside. They make the wastelands even more inhospitable.

It also makes the Imperial prison on Mandalore seen in Star Wars: Rebels more formidable, as any prisoner that escaped would not only have to contend with an endless desert of nothingness, but they’d also have to face these monsters, likely getting killed in the process.

When do the Alamites appear in The Mandalorian?

The Alamites first appear in The Mandalorian Season 3 Episode 2, titled “The Mines of Mandalore.” A group attack Din when he is looking for R5, but he manages to beat them off with a combination of his blaster, a knife, the Darksaber, and the tried and true method of chucking them from a great height.

Grogu runs into one when he is rushing to get help when Din gets captured but hurls it backward by using the Force. Bo-Katan encounters the species when she and Grogu are on their way to rescue Din and gives more background to the Alamites.

They’re likely to return in the future of the show.
