Summary
In this touching episode, fans are given a new goal to hope for while being prepared for what could be one of the most brutal fights of the season.

In Vinland Saga Season 2 Episode 14, viewers learned more about Arnheid (Mayumi Sako) and how she ended up on Ketil’s farm. Much like Thorfinn (Yuto Uemura) and Einar (Shunsuke Takeuchi), her journey was riddled with loss and tragedy, but until recently, she’d learned to make the most of the situation.
However, now the reappearance of her old husband, Gardar, threatens to ruin the peace that Arnheid has achieved on the farm. Although she wants to stay, that not be the most straightforward option knowing that Canute (voiced by Kensho Ono) is on his way to seize Ketil’s farm at any moment.
Vinland Saga Season 2 Episode 15 Recap
The episode opens with Arnheid visiting Gardar despite the oncoming storm. Although Snake tries to refuse her, she manages to convince the man guarding her to at least let her tend to Gardar’s wounds.
Despite his apologies and requests to be untied, Arnheid does not free Gardar. Instead, she bursts into tears and apologizes to him.
Who does Gardar kill to get free?
When the rain worsens, the majority of the guards head inside, leaving Arnheid, Gardar, and the guard who escorted her to the guest quarters alone.
Gardar takes this opportunity to attack the remaining guard, lunging forward and biting a hole in his neck, killing him.
As the guard lay dead in front of them, Gardar instructs Arnheid to grab his knife and cut his restraints before they are both killed. She does so, freeing Gardar up to murder the remaining guards.
Who told Thorfinn about the lands across the ocean?
As Thorfinn speaks to Einar about creating a world with less war, he suddenly remembers a place Leif told him about across the ocean. He tells Einar about the untouched lands across the ocean to the west and how they are without slaves or war.
It would be the perfect place to start his new world, but unfortunately, Thorfinn does not know how to get there without Leif.
Vinland Saga Season 2 Episode 15 Ending Explained
As Thorfinn and Einar finish their conversation, Fox and the other guards raid their sleeping quarters in search of Gardar. Although Einar is initially confused, Thorfinn immediately recognizes that they are searching for an escaped Gardar. The episode ends with Einar worrying about Arnheid as Snake prepares his sword.
While I wasn’t expecting half of this episode to be Thorfinn and Einar talking to one another, their conversation was neither dull nor out of place. It actually felt like the perfect way to set up the rest of the season, as these characters now seem to have definitive goals.

At the same time, the struggle involving Gardar and Arnheid is already threatening to ruin Thorfinn’s declaration of non-violence. This whole episode was stellar in building tension while showing viewers just how fragile the peace Thorfinn strives for truly is.
With clearer goals in mind, it feels like the next part of Thorfinn’s life is starting to come together. Leif is on his way at just the right time, and it finally feels like there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
However, with so many obstacles in their way already and more coming, I doubt we’ll see Thorfinn get to make any real progress toward his goals anytime soon, especially without fighting.
