Rabbit Hole Season 1 Episode 5 Recap

Why does Madi suspect John’s Team is alive?

Madi suspects John’s team is alive because she tracks the supposedly dead associate’s family and friends. Madi stakes out a friend of Cara’s without permission. This unauthorized investigation produces relevant information. To enter the friend’s home, Madi pretends to sell candy for her daughter’s school.

Once she is inside, Madi notices an expensive wine she is drinking. When Madi leaves, she finds a bill for the wine that costs 1,800 dollars in her files on John’s team. In a flashback, we see Cara packing the expensive wine before they blow up their office. Madi theorizes that Cara gave away expensive items, knowing she was faking her own death.

Why did John fake his team’s death?

John faked the death of his team, including Cara, Hafix, and Manfred, to protect them from Crowley. The intention is to bring them back in later when needed. To do this, he took DNA from them. This included teeth and hair, which would be discovered after the bomb went off. John even devised a plan to minimize casualties in the accounting office, which is just below them.

John and Ben also discuss their intern, who betrayed John earlier this season. The bomb would blow up right before he comes back from grabbing lunch. Ben wants to kill him because they know he is a mole. John objects because he could be an FBI plant. However, Ben thinks he is working for Crowley.

What is the America SOS Committee?

The America SOS Committee is a political organization making large donations to Senator Norah Evers of New Jersey. John suspects Crowley must own this company.

While in their safehouse, Edward researches and discovers the accounting pattern. Right after he reveals the information on the committee, a two-person assassin team throws a flashbang grenade through the window.

As they attempt to escape, Edward is shot in the arm. While pinned on the bottom floor, Ben kills both men from behind, using their additional smoke grenade as cover.

Why did Ben call Tom right before his death?

John discovers his father called Tom right before Tom commits suicide, but we aren’t sure initially why. However, this revelation doesn’t alleviate John’s stress. John has been suffering from memories of his childhood friend’s suicide since the incident. This is triggering for John, whose mental health issues cloud his judgment.

As an operative, John has suffered from paranoia for years. This doesn’t build trust with his father, and John is upset with Ben.

Eventually, John’s father admits to calling Tom to warn him, but he then realizes that Tom is a mole. Tom had told Ben to “shut up and let me think” and “tell him I had no choice.” This is all the evidence Ben needed to determine that Tom was a traitor.

Rabbit Hole Season 1 Episode 5 Ending Explained

Who killed John’s team?

Madi finds John’s entire team dead at the bottom of the elevator shaft in their work building. It turns out John’s team was killed that day by the Crowley plant, “The Intern,” who remains nameless.

When he was sent to grab lunch, Ben followed him, intending to kill him, but the intern caught his tail. He is about to kill Ben with a knife to the ribs, but a car comes by. The intern runs and presumably talks to Crowley. He now has orders to kill the entire team.

This is where we try to differentiate between perception and reality. We initially see Manfred and Hafix call John when Tom double-crossed them. At that moment in the pilot, this was when the bomb is set off.

However, when Manfred hangs up on John, the intern reappears. He shoots both in the head. Cara walks in, and he shoots her too. When Ben returns, he witnesses the intern tossing dead bodies down the elevator shaft.

The intern enters the office and sees three bodies at the team’s desks. He also sees a bomb ready to go off.

However, these are not the bodies of John’s team, so we can only assume these must be cadavers. We can also assume Ben set off the bomb and turned the corner, hoping it would kill the young assassin.

This is when the intern narrowly makes his escape.
