The finale of Great Expectations Season 1 has arrived and doesn’t disappoint. With Jaggers’s (Ashley Thomas) and Pip’s (Fionn Whitehead) plans soured, they have to make decisions that include battling an old foe after them.

Estella (Shalom Brune-Franklin) decides who she wants to marry, and we see one big battle to end the season.

Great Expectations Season 1 Episode 6 Recap

The episode begins with Compeyson arriving at Joe and Sara’s house looking for shelter. They expected him to be home soon and directed him to the local pub.

Wemmick arrives to tell Jaggers that the ship with all his goods sunk last night. While unfortunate, Jaggers said he would use this to his advantage. Then, he tells him to give Pip the news.

The storm ravages Miss Havisham’s house, and when she looks at it, she presses Estella about finding someone to fix it. However, Estella tells her she met a man named Magwitch, and he told her things.

She followed by saying that Magwitch said things would change after today, and she rips Miss Havisham’s dress and tells her that she will not speak to a broken-hearted bride.

How does Pip handle the news of the cargo being lost?

Pip reacts shockingly by saying he is very sad for those involved, but Wemmick says it’s not good for him and Jaggers. Then, Pip asks Wemmick how much of his fortune he invested into the enterprise and tells him all of it.

If you recall, at the beginning of the first episode, we met Pip, who had a rope and was going to jump off the bridge and kill himself. We are now at that moment, but when Pip jumps, Wemmick can use his knife to cut the rope so that he can’t kill himself.

Estella arrives to let Magwitch know that Miss Havisham is on her way. Upon her arrival, Miss Havisham and Magwitch exchange nice pleasantries. Magwitch tells her that he has returned to find Compeyson and kill him.

As Magwitch starts a fire, he asks Estella to come home, but she says no.

Hemmick rushes back to Jaggers to inform him of finding Pip but shortly loses him. Jaggers tells him that he will let the family know. We see Jaggers head to the water on a boat screaming for Pip.

Moments later, we see Pip get awoken on a ship, leading to him being back home.

Although he doesn’t see his family, Pip works on things around Joe’s Blacksmith place until Jaggers arrives. The conversation doesn’t go as Jaggers wanted, leaving Pip with the parting words, “I now understand why people that come here from London are already dead.”

How does Biddy react to Pip being back in town?

Pip heads to see Biddy, who says he has changed his ways and become the man he was meant to be. Drink Beer, not rum, tobacco, and not opium, but Biddy interrupts and says Biddy, not Estella, the lesser of two options. Regardless of her hesitations of being standoffish, Biddy opens up to Pip with the idea of wanting that future with him.

After leaving Pip, Jaggers heads to the bar, where he sees that Compeyson is in town. Pip is reunited with Joe and his sister, but at dinner, they tell him about Compeyson coming to the house and his interest in Pip, causing Pip to storm out.

Magwitch arrives to snag Pip and head to Jaggers for their plan for the evening revolving around killing Compeyson.

We see Pip and Estella together when she kisses him and asks if he feels love. He says yes, but she tells him she doesn’t love him. She follows that she should marry someone who loves her, but she doesn’t love in return.
