Summary

“Izzy” is another humorous and wholesome installment, although the final third ruins this somewhat as Izzy makes her big speech. The writers seem to be forcing specific plot points and revelations without letting them naturally reveal themselves in the story.

We recap the Apple TV+ series The Big Door Prize Season 1 Episode 8, “Izzy,” which contains spoilers.

The eighth installment of The Big Door Prize focuses on the town’s mayor Izzy (Crystal Fox), a manipulative and self-centered woman. We last saw her looking ready to destroy the Morpho machine with a bat, but Jacob (Sammy Fourlas) thankfully stopped her.

In “Izzy,” the mayor opens up about her past, Dusty (Chris O’Dowd) confronts Giorgio (Josh Segarra), and Mr. Johnson’s magic show leads to many unfortunate revelations.

The Big Door Prize Season 1 Episode 8 Recap

Picking up where the last scene ended, Jacob stops Izzy from vandalizing the Morpho machine. He explains why he is in the store so late, discussing his latest discovery.

Jacob tried the machine repeatedly but entered the wrong details, and then he didn’t even use his own fingerprints, but the results were the same every time.

What did Izzy’s Morpho card really say?

Izzy tries the machine herself, following Jacob’s guidance. She shows Jacob her card; it says “ghost” on it. Izzy admits that she lied about her Morpho card. It never said dancer; it always said ghost. She agrees with the card; she feels invisible in her own town. They agree to keep each other’s secrets.

The following day, Izzy and Cass argue over the gala and Izzy’s lies. Cass is hurt that Izzy manipulated her into hating Martha, but it was all Izzy’s fault in the end. The mother takes Cass out for lunch as a chance to tell her side of the story.

At Giorgio’s restaurant, Izzy tells Cass that she gave up her career for Martha. Izzy won’t accept responsibility for any of it, stating that she never lied to Martha and didn’t want kids.

Izzy admits that she lied about her Morpho card though, which is progress. Cass vows to get Izzy a blank card so that she can carry on the lie, or else her mayoral seat could be in jeopardy.

Meanwhile, Trina tells Dusty about Giorgio and Cass almost kissing. Trina urges Dusty to confront Giorgio about this possible affair.

Dusty heads to Giorgio’s mansion and finds the bald man asleep on the floor. He’s still heartbroken after Cass rejected him. Ironically, Dusty ends up consoling Giorgio instead of attacking him.

What does Urie’s Morpho card say?

Dusty decides to try and cheer Giorgio up by retrieving some of the items he sold, which were lost during his attempts to win over Cass. They go to one of the buyers, a man called Urie. His Morpho card said “sole survivor” on it, and he is now scared he will be involved in a terrible disaster.

To protect his family, Urie’s been living in the garden shed. The trio discuss their fears, agreeing to finally face them head-on.

Jacob passes Trina a blank card for Izzy. The couple holds hands, realizing they are better off when together. That night the whole town attends Mr. Johnson’s magic show.

Outside the event, Cass gifts Izzy with the fake Morpho card. Izzy then gives Martha the permit for the Inn that she was after.

It looks like the mayor has turned a new leaf and is finally using her powers for good.

During the show, Dusty is used as a volunteer. He is asked to describe a memory from his past. Dusty mentions skiing in Whistler, Canada. He realizes that his Morpho card, which said Teacher/Whistler, may have been hinting towards the place, not the act.

The Big Door Prize Season 1 Episode 8 Ending Explained

After the show, Izzy makes an announcement; she is stepping down as mayor. Izzy confesses to lying about her Morpho card and using a blank card to keep the lie going. She names Jacob, Trina, and Cass in this cover-up, then starts to divulge further town secrets.

It looks like Izzy wanted to humiliate Cass after all. This speech throws the gala and Cass’ Morpho merchandise business into doubt, making her daughter out to be an untrustworthy woman, capitalizing on the Morpho machine’s popularity. Izzy runs away after this unnecessary act.

Outside, she spies a deer in the middle of the road.
