Summary

The second chapter is a little more generic than the first, but the series is still exciting and brimming with potential. Citadel seems to work best when our two leads work side by side, making for a fun duo with plenty of on-screen chemistry.

We recap the 2023 Amazon Prime Video series Citadel Season 1 Episode 2, which contains spoilers.

The first installment established the main characters of Citadel and its good versus evil plotting.

The second chapter explores what happened to Nadia (Priyanka Chopra Jonas) in the eight years since the train explosion. Meanwhile, in the present, Mason (Richard Madden) and Bernard (Stanley Tucci) travel to New York to retrieve that all-important case.

Citadel Season 1 Episode 2 Recap

Following on from the premiere, Nadia climbs out of the riverbank with flaming wreckage behind her. She manages to flag down a passing car but is kidnapped by this stranger. Nadia is forced to fight her way to freedom, killing her captor. Although a Citadel fail-safe is triggered before she can truly escape.

A chip in Nadia’s head is activated, and all her memories are erased. Nadia writes a message on her arm just before the procedure is complete. The agent collapses as her memories are wiped. Nadia wakes to find a dead body, her passport, and that vital message penned on her arm.

What was Nadia’s message to herself?

Nadia had written on her arm to go to Valencia and the word: Asha. Her passport says Charlotte Vernon on it, another alias.

Back in the present, Mason and his family hideout in the mountains of Wyoming. Everything is falling into place for Mason, the scars, the amnesia, and his lack of family or friends. It all makes sense now, but his wife, Abby, is still dubious.

Mason and Bernard head to New York City and Manticore’s tech lab. The brothers Anders and Davik Silje are busy decrypting the lock on the case whilst the Citadel agents prepare their line of attack. Bernard has hacked Manticore’s server and gained full access to Mason.

The amnesiac agent infiltrates Manticore’s building, rediscovering his dormant spy skills as the Manticore agents attack this intruder. Mason is able to retrieve the case and run, but the brothers clock his identity before he leaves.

What is the Silje brothers’ mission?

The brothers inform Dahlia of this mishap. Dahlia is furious, stating that she is a broker for the Manticore bosses. This mistake could be very costly for her. She orders the brothers to bring her Mason and the case.

In the getaway car, Bernard instructs Mason on how to open the case. He hovers his wrist over the case, and an inbuilt chip unlocks it. They use this fancy tech to search for active agents across the globe. There are also vials inside containing all of the agent’s memories.

Mason asks if they are returning to Wyoming, but Bernard has lied to him. Manticore has seen Mason’s face, so they cannot stop until the fight ends. Mason and his family are in imminent danger. They must defeat Manticore to save themselves.

What happens to Mason’s memories?

As Mason takes in all this daunting information, the Silje brothers give chase. Bernard is shot, and his vehicle crashes to a halt. Mason shoots back and then steals a passing car, taking the case and the vials with him. Unfortunately, during the chaos, Mason’s vial has been damaged. He will never get those memories back ever again.

Using the Citadel case, Mason is able to pinpoint the location of another Citadel agent, Nadia Sinh. She is residing in Valencia, Spain. He books a flight there and informs his wife of the latest circumstances.

In Valencia, it’s the Fallas Festival, and there’s a real party atmosphere in the city. Mason tracks down Nadia to a restaurant where she now works. He tries to update her on the explosion and her memory loss, yet Nadia is frightened by this aggressive stranger; she doesn’t want to hear it.

Citadel Season 1 Episode 2 Ending Explained

Mason even tries throwing a knife at her, like Bernard did with him, but she just dodges it. The agent is forced to show her the case and her old identity. He then offers her the vial containing her old memories.

Before Nadia has time to process this information, though, one of the Silje brothers attacks.

Nadia fights the attacker, hitting them over the head with a frying pan. The two Citadel agents battle this foe but are no match for their skilled enemy.

Nadia uses the vial to unlock her old memories and is then able to defeat the rival with her new abilities. She tells Mason that she now remembers everything from her past.

The episode ends with the Silje brother calling Dahlia, informing her of the latest developments. Dahlia doesn’t seem that upset, though; she has captured a Citadel agent of her own.

She has Bernard hostage; he survived the attack. Dahlia vows to dissect all the Citadel secrets from Bernard by any means necessary.
