Summary

Although it hasn’t done anything to “wow” viewers yet, season two is off to a perfectly fine start with the potential to get more interesting down the line.

We review the anime Crunchyroll series The Ancient Magus’ Bride Season 2, which does not contain spoilers.

In season one of The Ancient Magus’ Bride, Chise’s (Atsumi Tanezaki) life changed dramatically when she was purchased by Elias (Ryota Takeuchi) at auction. While her aptitude for magic is there, her constant need to sacrifice herself for the good of others often proves to be a more hindering trait than a noble one.

Luckily, this season, Chise’s been invited to study at a college that should give her better control and understanding of her powers as a Sleighbeggy.

However, just because everything seems to be looking up so far doesn’t mean there isn’t some evil lurking nearby and threatening to turn all of her peace upside down.

The Ancient Magus’ Bride Season 2 Review and Plot Summary

The Ancient Magus’ Bride is a Dark Fantasy series that, despite being a shonen, often feels a lot like a romance. The story follows Chise, a young girl known as a Sleigh Beggy, a rare person with a particular aptitude for magic who is able to draw power from both their surroundings and from within.

The series starts with Chise being purchased at auction by a mysterious mage named Elias, whose appearance reflects fae and human characteristics.

Although seeking a bride, he also takes Chise on as his apprentice as well.

While, at times, the bride element can feel like a bit much, the story itself is still quite entertaining, and the dynamic between Chise and Elias is adorable otherwise.

With fantasy series, it’s always interesting to see how the series chooses to world-build, and the uniqueness of the plot, and The Ancient Magus’ Bride does a good job of both.

Is The Ancient Magus’ Bride season 2 good or bad?

The Ancient Magus’ Bride season 2 has been pretty good. My biggest issue is that it seemed a bit slow in the beginning, but that’s not much of a surprise, considering how slow the first season was as well.

It seems this series takes a while to build up momentum between arcs.

Is The Ancient Magus’ Bride Season 2 worth watching?

So far, The Ancient Magus’ Bride season 2 is worth watching. Despite the slow start, it seems too early to count it out just yet. The characters are still interesting, and I’m honestly curious to see if Chise will put more effort into caring for herself this season.

If she does, I could see season two being even more entertaining than season one, even with half the episodes. However, the season only has one or two more chances to pick up before it starts to feel too slow to enjoy.
