Summary

Black Knight ends with a satisfying and surprisingly conclusive finale.

This recap contains spoilers for the 2023 Netflix K-Drama Black Knight Season 1 Episode 6. It contains an open discussion of the ending of Black Knight Season 1.

The finale of Black Knight begins where we left off in Episode 5, with 5-8’s attempted assassination of Ryu Seok.

However, Mr. Oh’s betrayal exposes their plan, giving Ryu Seok the opportunity to flee. The Deliverymen miss their target and the only opportunity they had to take him out.

However, Seol-ah has taken all of the evidence against his son and Cheonmyeong to Chairman Ryu. There’s a chance that the matter could be solved internally, without risking all-out chaos. This is the outcome Seol-ah is hoping for. But it seems too easy, doesn’t it?

Black Knight Season 1 Ending Explained

How is Chairman Ryu killed?

We learn that Chairman Ryu actually knows Grandpa, and they worked together within Cheonmyeong until the latter left. Chairman Ryu developed the Air Cores to help people, and he’s appalled by what his son has done.

In an effort to stop Ryu Seok, Chairman Ryu signs over control of the oxygen supply and distribution to the president. The Defense Minister arrives to arrest Ryu Seok, but he shoots his guards dead. Ryu Seok puts his gun to his head and tries to compel his father to pull the trigger and end his problem himself rather than offloading it to someone else, but the Defense Minister shoots Chairman Ryu dead.

With the government now in control, the next stage of Ryu Seok’s takeover plan is a coup. They’re going after the president.

What happens to Useless?

Ryu Seok puts out essentially a bounty on 5-8 and the rest of his team, suspending deliveries of all live-giving oxygen until they are all apprehended.

Ryu Seok’s plan for the refugees also reveals itself, as everyone who underwent a physical exam and received a vaccination drops dead. Grandpa figures this out and tells 4-1, who sends the alert out. The Deliverymen manage to intervene in the distribution of the vaccine, but in the resultant crossfire, Useless is shot.

Useless dies in Sa-wol’s arms, imploring him to flee so he isn’t caught. However, in his grief, Sa-wol doesn’t listen and is captured.

How do 5-8 and Seol-ah get into the Core District?

With Sa-wol kidnapped and being used as a blood bank for Ryu Seok, 5-8 and his Deliverymen team up with Seol-ah and her Intelligence Command to storm the Core District using the blueprints that Grandpa drew up with Chairman Ryu.

The united forces assault the capital together, splitting into different teams. 4-1 and her squad gun down Mr. Oh, while Seol-ah arrests the Defense Minister for treason. 5-8 goes to rescue Sa-wol.

Ryu Seok overloads the Air Core, adamant that the “vermin” refugees can’t have safety and stability and even clean air to breathe. Sa-wol, barely conscious, causes a distraction so that 5-8 has a brief opportunity to shoot Ryu Seok. He puts a final bullet in his head to deny him the satisfaction of suicide.

The Air Core detonates, taking Ryu Seok and Cheonmyeong and the entire capital building with it. 5-8 and Seol-ah are able to escape with Sa-wol and the refugees.

In the aftermath of this, the President abolishes the class stratification system of the QR codes and promises a more equal society for all. Three months later, 5-8 and Sa-wol are still Deliverymen, and now firm friends, as the skies above the Korean Peninsula finally begin to clear.
