XO, Kitty Season 1 Episode 5 Recap

Kitty is back in the boy’s dormitory. She awkwardly bumps into Dae on their first morning as roommates. Dae realizes that Kitty is stressed. She has a lot on her plate at the moment, living with her ex-boyfriend and failing her classes. Kitty wonders if being friends with Dae on top of all this is such a good idea.

On their way to class, Kitty and Q discuss the adoption news further. Kitty is struggling to find any more information, though.

Q suggests she asks Alex in person. Kitty considers it, but she needs the opportunity to spring this on him.

What is Chuseok?

That opportunity might not be too far off. It is Chuseok, the Korean celebration of the good harvest. Principal Jina Lim explains the festivities to the class. Chuseok is a time to thank the ancestors and to pay your respects to those we have lost. Jina wishes everyone an enjoyable break.

Kitty catches Alex after class. She tells him that everything is going badly. Sticking to her plan, she invites him around for dinner, though.

To make it less awkward, she proposes a gathering for all students and staff members who are far from home and cannot be with their families this holiday. Alex agrees to attend.

In way over her head, as usual, Kitty goes shopping for this significant occasion. At the store, she bumps into Min Ho. He’s preparing for his special meal, hoping to date Lulu, an up-and-coming K-pop star with whom Min Ho has been flirting.

Min Ho decides to help Kitty so that she doesn’t poison his fellow students.

Why does Yuri go to Dae’s meal?

At home, Yuri’s parents argue. Jina wants to spend more time with her family, but President Han intends to work during this time off. Yuri questions her mother about Eve. Jina admits that they were roommates but won’t divulge any more details. Unimpressed with the arguing, Yuri decides to crash Dae’s holiday meal instead, as she has no one else to be with.

That morning, Min Ho and Kitty cook together. Min Ho is also alone for the holidays, as his mom is busy filming in Los Angeles. Kitty is surprised to see this vulnerable, wholesome side of Min Ho.

They wonder if Dae is struggling with Chuseok, which is a time for family. Dae’s mother died three years ago, and the family seems to struggle to cope with this grief. Yuri surprises Dae and attends his family meal. Dae gets to see a more positive, relaxed side of Yuri as well.

Kitty’s meal is a huge success, with many students in attendance. Professor Lee arrives, too, informing Kitty that faculty supervision is needed for a gathering of this size. Kitty positions herself next to Alex, hoping to tell him the big news.

Alex and Kitty discuss their roots. Kitty talks about her mother, who died when she was young. She asks Alex why he wanted to work at KISS. The teacher mentions knowing someone who went to the school.

Kitty is about to dig deeper when Min Ho decides to leave. He’s off on his important date. After Min Ho’s departure, Alex sits with Professor Lee, eager to get to know him better.

What does Kitty send Dae?

Meanwhile, Yuri says goodbye to her fake boyfriend after a lovely meal. As she is leaving, Yuri intercepts a delivery for Dae. Inside the delivery, Yuri finds a letter from Kitty and her necklace. The letter from Kitty says that she is always there for him. Yuri keeps the letter and the necklace for herself, though.

Min Ho heads to his date, bursting with confidence. Unfortunately, he has an upset stomach from Kitty’s mashed potatoes. The stud is forced to jump into a bush to hide. He messages Kitty to come help. The matchmaker manages to postpone Min Ho’s date for one night.
