Where was the 2023 remake White Men Cant Jump filmed – a breakdown of filming locations

Where was the 2023 remake White Men Can’t Jump Filmed? We discuss the popular Hulu film and its filming locations.

Who remembers the classic comedy-drama from 1992, starring Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson as two basketball players on the hustle?

Written and directed by Rob Shelton, the well-loved movie follows grifters Billy and Sydney teaming up for a better chance at winning a tournament, but the mob is also on Billy’s tale, so the stakes are high.

Often regarded as a nineties classic, the film was remade for release on Hulu.

The remake would cast Sinqua Walls and Jack Harlow as our crooked ballers and would also sadly be the last appearance of actor Lance Reddick, to whom the film would be dedicated.

It will always be a tough pitch to remake a beloved classic, and it seems that this attempt has fallen a little short of the mark, with many people not impressed with the new version.

This fast-paced article is more interested in the production side of things and is here to answer the question, where was White Men Can’t Jump (2023) filmed?

Where was the 2023 remake White Men Can’t Jump filmed – a breakdown of filming locations

Los Angeles

The film takes place in LA, so it is no surprise that most of the shooting was done on location. The original production also utilized the LA locations in the filmmaking process, and there are some overlaps between the old version and the new one.

LA is so used to accommodating film crews that it is much easier to operate there, as everything they need is catered for and readily available.

The plot operates on the premise of street basketball teams that are evident in LA, so filming on location where these street teams play, adds authenticity to the film’s locations.

West Angeles Church, LA

Calmatic directed the film, and if that name sounds both enigmatic and familiar, you may recognize it as he was the director of Lil Nas’ video for Old Town Road. Calmatic is from LA, so he was in a perfect position to show off the city he loves.

In a recent interview, he would say, “Being somebody from LA, I think one of the best experiences I have, or one of the things I look forward to the most being a creator, is just exposing my city to the world. And also the real LA, the LA that we know.”

In a scene that would mirror one directly from the original movie, you can see the two leads driving down through the Crenshaw district, and in the background, just like the original, you can see the West Angeles Church.

Venice Beach Recreation Centre

Filming would take place in and around the area known as Venice Beach, and film fans and locals will recognize a lot of the locations. As well as the stunning beaches and sea view, there are many facilities that, of course, include basketball courts, as you see in the movie.

The area is also famous for the Muscle Beach Venice gym, complete with bodybuilders, and if that’s not your thing, there are also paddle tennis, handball courts, and play areas.
