Will there be a Season 2 of Drops of God – renewed or canceled status

We discuss whether there will be a Season 2 of the Apple TV+ series Drops of God and its renewed or canceled status.

Drops of God is an Apple original drama series based on the hugely successful Japanese manga series of the same name by Tadashi Agi. Created by Quoc Dang Tran (Netflix’s Marianne), this wine odyssey marks the first co-production between Apple TV+, France Television, and Hulu Japan.

The series follows the complex competition between author Camille Leger (Fleur Geffrier) and wine protege Issei Tomine (Tomohisa Yamashita) as they battle for Alexandre Leger’s hefty inheritance, which is calculated at over $150 million.

In death, Alexandre has pitted his daughter against his top student to see who can carry on his wine legacy.

These innovative tests push our competitors to their limits and bring up many dark secrets from the past too, as they delve into Alexandre’s scandalous history with each new challenge. It’s a globe-trotting affair that is beautifully shot, educating viewers on wine while being highly addictive entertainment all at the same time.

Yet has this hidden gem of a TV show been completely overlooked and utterly ignored by audiences, or will Apple be eager to renew Drops of God for a second season?

Will there be a Season 2 of Drops of God – renewed or canceled status

Apple TV+ is yet to renew Drops of God for a second season. The prestigious streaming site is yet to make a decision on the fate of its multilingual drama series about wine. If we are to analyze the data, the series has been welcomed by critics, but it seems to have been poorly marketed by Apple, and therefore it hasn’t connected with a larger audience.

Currently holding a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes and an 8.1/10 rating on IMDB (May 25th, 2023), Drops of God has been well-received across the board by critics.

There’s very little to dislike about this production, after all. The series is cinematic and intricately pieced together. However, its subject matter may be alienating to the general public.

Just tipping into the top 20, Drops of God can currently be found at number 19 in the Apple charts. This isn’t terrible news, but for a new show, one that is still being released on a weekly basis, it would be expected to place a little higher overall.

Unfortunately, this proves that the show hasn’t been the biggest success with viewers.

To conclude, Apple TV+ is inclined to side with the critics when contemplating a second season, and it has renewed international dramas before. Last year’s Pachinko springs to mind, so there is a lot of potentials for Drops of God to be renewed.

Although I think the series will not warrant a second outing and will finish its narrative with its eighth installment.

I’m unsure how the show ends, but if there is potential for more of this world to be explored, then I would welcome a second season, but I’m going to predict that the series will be canceled, as there is no need for a follow-up season.

As always, we will keep you posted on any updates in the pending renewal of Drops of God.
