Will there be a Scoop Season 2 on Netflix?

Director Hansal Mehta‘s Scoop tells the relevant and complicated true story of Jigna Vora, a journalist framed and imprisoned for the murder of fellow crime reporter based on J Dey, who was shot dead in 2011.

Here renamed Jagruti Pathak (Karishma Tanna), with J Dey now Jaideb Sen (Prosenjit Chatterjee), Scoop explores the lead-up to Sen’s murder and Pathak being framed for it, and then the complicated legal and criminal aftermath.

Here’s a quote from our review:

This is a deeply human drama featuring an abundance of noteworthy performances, but the secret to its inevitable success – the attention it has garnered thus far speaks to a major hit for the streaming platform – is its tone. Abandoning the sensationalism that is typically associated with print media and the melodrama often associated with narrative entertainment, Scoop finds a just-right middle ground where it’s earnest and heartfelt without being manipulative, accurate and detailed without being dry, and engaging moment-to-moment without losing emotional and ethical heft.

For those wondering about the show’s potential future, look no further. Here’s everything we know.

Will there be a Scoop Season 2 on Netflix?

Renewed or canceled status: TBC

At the time of writing Netflix have not officially renewed Scoop. However, it is clear that the intention is for the series to have several seasons, each focusing on a different real-life crime.

The malleability of this format means that the showrunners can leave the story of Jigna Vora behind while still retaining the appeal of the brand. And with the first season’s trailer having already amassed a staggering 39 million views, it’s clear that there is going to be a long-term appeal to that brand.

Netflix will, of course, be mindful of the first season’s success. They will pay attention to how many people watch it to completion, and it’ll be worth keeping an eye on resources like Netflix Top 10. If Scoop finds its way into the non-English TV rankings, that’s a very strong sign that we’ll see a second season, even in lieu of any official announcement.

Of course, that marketing attention not translating to viewership is a possibility, but even then, there’s a chance Netflix could take a punt on a second season anyway. With true crime, it only takes one story to really capture the imagination of the viewing public, and with each potential season being distinct, the success of Season 1 does not necessarily speak to the success of Season 2.

Either way, we’ll keep this page updated with any new information, but our official prediction is that Scoop will be renewed for Season 2 sooner rather than later.
