We recap the Apple TV+ series Silo Season 1 Episode 7, “The Flamekeepers,” which contains spoilers.

The previous installment of Silo ended with the biggest twist from the series yet, opening up the show’s central conspiracy even further. In “The Flamekeepers,” we explore more of this new revelation as Sims observes Juliette’s (Rebecca Ferguson) every move. Meanwhile, the Sheriff questions a citizen with her own wealth of knowledge.

Silo Season 1 Episode 7 Recap

This particular character is Gloria Hildebrandt, and viewers are shown her fantasies and hallucinations in the opening scene. Gloria dreams of the sandy beach found in George’s magazine relic.

On waking from this dream, Gloria is highly medicated, having missed a dose.

Juliette finds Gloria’s name written inside George’s magazine, alongside George’s and a new character called Anne. She then finds Gloria’s file, which is somehow connected to George’s.

Juliette goes to research this woman at work. All the while, Sims and his team follow Juliette’s movements on their many screens.

Who is Gloria Hildebrandt?

Gloria is located in long-term care. She is a patient who used to be the Silo’s fertility counselor. Juliette is informed that Gloria suffers from hallucinations, which are a side effect of her dementia.

Juliette asks to take her for a walk, but Judge Meadows has ordered Gloria to remain within the medical facility.

While Juliette investigates this new lead, a riot breaks out in the Silo. Paul Billings is requested to deal with this incident, arresting those involved in the fight. When Juliette eventually returns to her office, Paul confronts the Sheriff about her negligence.

Juliette is then forced to reveal the truth behind her investigation. She opens up to Paul about the murders and how they are all connected somehow. Juliette asks where Judge Meadows is based, wanting to visit her in person. Paul begrudgingly tells her the apartment location.

After a tough day at work, Juliette hangs out with star-gazer Lukas. They nearly kiss each other, but Juliette pulls away at the last second.

Next, Juliette barges in on Judge Meadows, who is off work, apparently sick. Her apartment is filled with forbidden relics. Judge Meadows won’t help Juliette with her plans to let Gloria out, not even for a few hours.

It seems she is also working for a higher power.

How does Juliette free Gloria?

Having tried to legally release Gloria, Juliette resorts to taking matters into her own hands. She uses her father, Dr. Pete Nichols, as a means to enter the medical facility. Pete reverses Gloria’s sedation, although she has a seizure. When the seizure passes, Gloria appears more lucid.

Juliette questions Gloria, but she is disturbed by Pete’s appearance. Gloria blames Pete, stating that he stopped her from having babies. Juliette shows Gloria the magazine, and they talk about George. It’s revealed that Gloria gave the magazine to George’s mother, Anne.

Who are the Flamekeepers?

Gloria starts to discuss a resistance called the Flamekeepers, a group that fought against the Silo’s elite, those who wanted to erase them and the past. She states that their enemies spiked the water supply to make them forget. The Flamekeepers kept relics to keep the memories of the past alive. Gloria and Anne were both in this resistance.

She then talks about Pete and the Silo authorities who stopped Flamekeepers from reproducing. Gloria’s birth control wasn’t removed, just like Allison’s. After many years of trying for a baby, Gloria eventually lost hope and gave her magazine to Anne.

Before they part ways, Gloria looks at the beach photograph once more. She informs Juliette that her mother, Hanna, was working with Anne on a magnifying device. Hanna wasn’t a Flamekeeper, but she shared their same curiosity for finding the truth.

Afterward, Juliette takes Gloria back to her room. As she collects the wheelchair, she argues with her father. Pete defends himself, arguing that he had no choice. He was tricked into conforming himself.

Juliette isn’t interested. She thinks he’s a coward and a liar.

Silo Season 1 Episode 7 Ending Explained

Juliette wheels Gloria back to her room. With this, they leave the blind spots and return to Sims’ camera screens. Gloria remembers Holston visiting her once. She mentions him bringing her flowers and placing them in front of her mirror. This acts as a light-bulb moment for Juliette, who connects this idea with Holston’s note and the broken vase.

She figures it all out. They are being observed through the mirrors. Gloria then remembers Holston placing something in her vent. Juliette covers the mirror and investigates, finding the hard drive and other items inside the vent.

Sims panicked, realizing that Juliette now knew about their surveillance. He sends a team to capture her. Gloria calls Juliette the last of the Flamekeepers, passing their responsibilities over to her. Juliette panics and runs, escaping before the soldiers arrive.
