Another day, another rom-com.
Netflix’s 2023 movie The Perfect Find takes place in the fashion world and follows the story of Jenna, who is fired from her high-profile position and decides to return to New York to try and salvage what is left of her flagging career.
Single and desperate, Jenna takes a position under the ruthless Darcy, played by Gina Torres.
Darcy is a giant in the fashion world but is a savage employer, but Jenna knows it is a chance to get her life back on track. However, she does not factor into the equation her attraction to the young Eric, who works beside her in the company.
Work-based romantic relationships are never really a good idea, and when the object of attraction is the son of the boss, it can just get messy, so Jenna is once again in a tricky situation, trying to relaunch herself and her career but embarking on a secret romance with a much younger colleague.
The formulaic frothy, fun-filled film is directed by Numa Perrier and based on the book of the same name by Tia Williams. Where was The Perfect Find filmed – a breakdown of filming locations
New York City, Manhattan
The production team decided to film on location for the movie, so New York would be used. Jenna returns to the city to get herself back on track, which adds authenticity to a shoot if the locations match the action in a film.
With so many movies taking place in the city, the locations are very recognizable, so if you set your movie in New York, always take the opportunity to film there if possible. One such iconic location is the Brooklyn Bridge, impossible to miss in some scenes from the movie, and is where the scene with Eric and Jenna on a romantic date takes place.
The bridge connects Manhattan to Brooklyn and first opened in 1883.
Harlem is used for shots of the cast in and around their neighborhood. Gabrielle Union‘s Instagram profile has a brilliant clip of her taking part in some skipping rope activity, double Dutch style, with a local group @jump4jerry.
However, other neighboring locations were also utilized, as well as the city itself.
New Jersey
Hudson County, Newark, and Jersey City, all contained within the state of New Jersey itself, were used for filming.
Newark is cheaper to film in than New York City but still captures the essence of New York, so some filming was done there probably to save a little on the budget.
