Summary
A promising, fun premiere that may honestly be better than the entirety of the first season.
We recap the Crunchyroll anime series Masamune-kun’s Revenge R Season 2 Episode 1, “The Wee Parisian Mademoiselle,” which contains spoilers.
Debuting back in 2017, Masamune-Kun’s Revenge was one of the wildest romantic comedies of the season.
While the revenge premise wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea, fans of the series have eagerly been awaiting the second season to see if Masamune (voiced by Natsuki Hanae) can actually get back at Aki for humiliating him so many years prior.
With season two focusing on the class trip to France, this could be just the romantic setting Masamune needs to make sparks fly before enacting his plan.
Masamune-kun’s Revenge R Season 2 Episode 1 Recap
The episode opens with Masamune kicking his mother and sister out of his room on the morning of his class trip to France. He seems to have little interest in breakfast with them, still too busy focused on enacting his revenge plan against Aki.
Who is Muriel Besson?
Muriel Besson is a French high school student Masamune accidentally runs into outside of a museum. She seems to be a bit of an otaku with a particular interest in drawing Japanese manga.
Who is Frank Besson?
Frank Besson is Muriel’s older brother, as well as the leader of a prominent French organized crime family.
After learning they declined his sister’s request to be the muse for her latest manga, he has his guards confront them outside of the museum so he can demand that they spend what little free time they do have teaching Muriel authentic Japanese culture.
Does Fujinomiya still have feelings for Masamune?
When Futaba asks Fujinomiya if she still has feelings for Masamune, she neither confirms nor denies it.
She wonders if it would be pathetic to still care for him after being rejected, but seems optimistic about what could happen in the future as they are both still growing.
Masamune-kun’s Revenge R Season 2 Episode 1 Ending Explained
As the other students enjoy their free time, Yoshino pretends to lead Kanetsugu on a search for Aki, knowing she has no intention of actually taking them where she is.
When Kanetsugu gets frustrated, Yoshino admits that she lied but continues taking the lie further, claiming she just wanted to spend alone time with them.
However, Kanetsugu doesn’t buy Yoshino’s lies for a second, instead showing her a picture they took earlier of Yoshino and Masamune plotting together while calling her out for being a traitor.
READ: Will there be a Masamune-kun’s Revenge R Season 3?
After waiting six years for this series to return, my expectations honestly were not that high. I was pleasantly surprised, however, by just how much better the series seemed to be in every aspect. The animation seemed crisper, and the comedic timing was solid. I found this episode to be funnier in just twenty minutes than most of the first season.
Along with better jokes, the introduction of new characters, love interests, and even more drama made this a fairly solid premiere with more layers than season one already. If they can keep this up, I have a lot of hope that season two of Masamune-kun will end up being better than season one.
