We discuss the ending of the 2023 Netflix film Seasons, which will contain significant spoilers and plot twists.
It’s intentional that we meet Charlie first at the beginning of Seasons. She tells the audience that she’s going to tell us a little story involving her best friend Kurt and a very odd time in her life.
She tells us that she messed everything up by forcing him into a relationship, and in doing so, she has pushed him away from her.
It’s not necessarily that she had feelings for him, but the best friend that she once had disappeared, and their friendship was forever changed.
The fact that this was her doing and she didn’t even realize she had feelings for him until it was too late is something she thinks about over and over again.
Yet, she doesn’t know what to do because she would never jeopardize her relationship with Kurt now, especially because he is happy.

Do Charlie and Kurt end up together?
After Charlie sets Kurt up on a date with Jane, Kurt becomes more distant because he has a girlfriend. Charlie made it clear that she wasn’t interested in him by interviewing women for him.
Once Kurt is head over heels in love with Jane, the attention he once gave Charlie was gone. So did Charlie miss the attention in general or the attention from Kurt?
At one point, Charlie decides to salvage their friendship and cook him a homemade meal at his place, and when he returns home, Jane is with him. So she tells a lie that she’s pregnant to make it seem like she had news to come with the meal.
Eventually, Kurt finds out that she lied after they both shared an intimate night together while he was with Jane, and he felt hurt by the fact that she lied to him, and he cut all ties with her.
The beginning comes back full circle as she was playing music in front of people, and that was three years later at Kurt’s wedding to Jane. It’s a pretty sad ending, but sometimes you want the attention from the person who has been a constant in your life instead of them actually being your significant other.
Charlie does not end up with Kurt, but they do remain friends even after all that time. And sometimes it’s better for the people you feel connected with to be in your life as friends instead of anything more because at least they’re there.
