Where was Mr. Car and the Knights Templar filmed – a breakdown of filming locations

Where was Mr. Car and the Knights Templar filmed? We discussed the 2023 Netflix film and the filming locations used.

Mr.Car and the Knights Templar is a Polish drama film currently available for streaming on Netflix. This family-friendly adventure film tells the story of Tomasz, an art historian who finds an ancient Templar Cross.

With the help of his unusual car, he must join forces with unlikely friends on a quest to unlock the relic’s secrets. The film is based on Zbigniew Nienacki’s Pan Samochodzik (Mr. Automobile) book series published in the 1960s and 1970s.

The nearly two-hour-long stars a range of Polish talent, including Mateusz Janicki as Tomasz, and is supported by Pan Samochodzik, Adam Ferency, Ewa Blaszczyk, Sandra Drzymalska and Przemyslaw Bluszcz.

Even though the film boasts an exciting and fun storyline, it is getting mixed reviews from critics. While this treasure-hunt flick has a wholesome message, the lengthy runtime is unnecessary as it goes on much longer than needed.

Where was Mr. Car and the Knights Templar filmed – a breakdown of filming locations

Poland

Mr. Car and the Knights Templar was filmed solely in Poland. This country has a lot of scope for memorable filming locations, including its Capital, Warsaw. Warsaw has been the filming location for films including The Pianist, Heaven in Hell, and 365 Days.

Having personally taken it, I know there are film tours you can take in Warsaw (and Krakow if you ever visit). Reports state that the filming began in the latter half of 2022 and finished in October 2022.

Malbork

Malbork is a town in the Pomeranian Voivodeship (also known as Pomorskie Region) in Poland and served as one of the primary filming locations for Mr. Car and the Knights Templar.

This location is packed with history and is recognized as having the world’s biggest castle, Malbork Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The castle spans a vast 52 acres and is open to the public.

If you want to visit, you can easily access Malbork Castle from nearby cities, including the popular Gdansk or Gdynia, both during the daytime.

Here is a list of landmarks in Malbork that you might be able to spot when watching Mr. Car and the Knights Templar: Commonwealth War Graves Commission Cemetery, The Monument of Polish King Casimir IV Jagiellon, The Gothic Town Hall and Baroque Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church.

Warsaw

Towards the end of filming, the cast and crew were spotted around Warsaw, and reports suggest that most of the in-house sequences were filmed in real, authentic establishments and studios all around Warsaw.

This city was used for both internal and external shots. Warsaw is filled with history and is a city that has been rebuilding itself from WWII. There are historic buildings that form the City’s Royal Route, which is sure to be seen in this film.

I’d also expect glimpses of The Presidential Palace, the Academy of Fine Arts, the Ministry of Culture and Art, and the University of Warsaw.

You can watch this film with a subscription to Netflix.
