Who is Sebastian in Bird Box Barcelona, and why is he important?
Sebastián is our focus in this outing, and the writers have done their best to present us with a layered and flawed protagonist. There is a bait and switch involved with Sebastian, and I want to avoid major spoilers in this article, but needless to say, he is not initially what you think he is, and it does at least lead to a reveal that you probably didn’t see with your blindfold on too tight.
Sebastian is emotionally scarred, which accounts for his behavior, so we want to empathize with him, but when you find out his ultimate goal, it makes you think twice about the character.
You have to admire the approach, as the easy way forward is to present the usual survivors against aliens approach, and Bird Box Barcelona does try to subvert the familiar tropes.
