Summary

See You in My 19th Life takes a more serious turn as the past and present begin to intertwine dangerously for Ji-eum.

This recap of the Netflix K-Drama See You in My 19th Life Season 1 Episode 10 contains spoilers.

Since the beginning, See You in My 19th Life has done interesting things with its premise, especially on the character level. Ji-eum is a layered protagonist, tortured by her past and present lives, still unsure of how they really intersect.

This episode finds that dilemma reach its most extreme form yet, and the tone of the show has shifted somewhat to suit. While there are still tender, heartwarming moments to be found, there seem to be fewer of them, and moments of outright comedy are rarer still.

This is no bad thing, of course. As the plot gets a little more complex and the characterization gets a little deeper, the show remains engaging through its obvious confidence in the story being told.

See You in My 19th Life Season 1 Episode 10 Recap

In Episode 9, Ji-eum had another vision of her first life, this time seeing herself stabbing Seo-ha, and someone shooting her in the back with an arrow.

Here, Ji-eum and Seo-ha travel to the place where she saw him in those visions, an almost date-like excursion during which he gifts her a pendant and some honesty from the depth of his heart. It’s romantic enough until the vision serves as a reminder that their connection throughout previous incarnations is not entirely positive.

Ji-eum also retains some details, so their present-day relationship isn’t totally open and honest either. It’s a pickle, to put things mildly.

What happens to Ae-gyeong?

Speaking of pickles, on the way home, Ji-eum receives a call from Min-ki informing her that Ae-gyeong has fallen ill.

By the time Ji-eum arrives Ae-gyeong is unconscious and the doctors are at a loss. We already knew that Ae-gyeong was mysteriously ill, we knew that Min-ki knew about it – Ji-eum isn’t thrilled by this – and we know that her condition, whatever it is, may well be related to Ji-eum’s willingness to share the nature of her reincarnations.

Min-ki and Han-na discuss this, and the potential next steps.

What does Han-na give Seo-ha?

Seo-ha receives a package containing documents damning Yeon-ok, and she’s ultimately fired from her position. It’s revealed that Han-na sent these documents. In a confusing moment – for Seo-ha – she hugs him from behind and gifts him a knitted turtled representing a memory from his childhood.

You’d think Seo-ha would be expecting people to be reincarnated versions of his loved ones at this point, but while he gets a strong feeling of his mother, he doesn’t put two and two together.

See You in My 19th Life Season 1 Episode 10 Ending Explained

Min-ki reveals to Ji-eum that the source of her mysterious illness is her connection with Ji-eum in her new life – others, too, will meet the same fate, presumably including Seo-ha. Ji-eum should have kept herself to herself rather than telling almost everyone she’s met about her true nature.

Min-ki claims that Ji-eum’s past life holds the answer to her questions and she has to explore that old life, through the shaman bell, to properly connect with it and understand it. When she does, she gets more intense visions, these ones of Seo-ha killing Cho-won.

When Seo-ha enters the room, Ji-eum cries in his arms, but the past and present begin to blur, and the recollections threaten to overwhelm her current reality. The episode ends with J-eum furiously choking Seo-ha.
