Summary
The Hardy Boys Season 3 thankfully puts an end to this overstuffed series that takes itself far too seriously for you to even remotely enjoy it.
The Edward Stratemeyer book series The Hardy Boys has seen many TV shows, movies, and even video games created over the years. The latest iteration of the series hits its third and final season on Hulu that stars Rohan Campbell and Alexander Elliot as the Hardy brothers.
The third season of The Hardy Boys picks up right where season two ended with the brothers on a quest from the directive of their deceased grandmother. The boys are on the hunt for a potent relic that their great-grandfather was after, but with others on the hunt for the relic, they must attempt to find it before they do.
In Season 2, where we saw that the Hardy’s figured out their mother is still alive while the spirit of the Circle is possessing Frank. The battle between Joe and Frank because the Circle is controlling Frank forces Joe to make decisions to take action in his own hands.
One of the only things that made these series worth watching was the dynamic between Rohan Campbell and Alexander Elliot as Frank and Joe Hardy. Sadly, the writers do a poor job of trying to pit the two against each other with the “Circle” while also further trying to convince the audience that this is a “serious” drama causing their likability to plummet in Season 3. I give them credit for trying, but the writers gave them some horrible dialogue to deliver.
The Hardy Boys Season 3 Does Not End on a Good Note
The writing of this show is borderline cringeworthy. The Hardy Boys is supposed to be a fun, lighthearted series about two brothers trying to be “detectives.” Instead, the writers try to make it into a more serious drama series that the more the story develops, the more that “fun” is taken out. It’s just not an enjoyable or even worthwhile investment of your time.
The series being close to 45 minutes per episode is one of the strangest things ever. The pacing is all over the place, making it feel like they are adding storylines or filler time because they didn’t know what to do with it. This 100% should’ve been 25-minute episodes that moved the plot faster along the way.
Look, you can’t fault the creators for trying to capture the magic of the original series, The Hardy Boys. The commitment of the writers to try and convince us that this series is to be taken seriously is baffling and ludicrous. The series reminds me of Netflix’s Outer Banks, which is wild, crazy, and over the top, but it never tries to take itself too seriously, which makes The Hardy Boys such a waste of time.
Did you enjoy Season 1 and 2 of The Hardy Boys? If you say yes, this is an easy recommendation for you. You always want to finish something you started, primarily when you invest two seasons into these characters. On the flip side, if you are looking for a sign to possibly binge-watch the series now that it is over, look elsewhere, as you will find much better-written series and not-so-cheesy acting without much trouble.
