Crunchyroll anime series Masamune-kuns Revenge R Season 2 Review
3

Summary

A surprisingly better second showing that improves upon everything from pacing to plot, making this a series genuinely worth continuing.

Here is our review of the Crunchyroll anime series Masamune-kun’s Revenge R Season 2, which does not contain spoilers.

After six long years of wondering and waiting, Masamune-kun’s Revenge finally announced it would return for a second season that almost no one saw coming.

While the first season only did okay in terms of reviews, it still managed to garner a decent cult following of fans eager to see Masamune’s (voiced by Natsuki Hanae) revenge story continue.

After only a few episodes, it’s easy to see why fans wanted to see the second half of this story animated, as it seems to have much more going for it than season one did. Despite such a long wait between seasons, the series has been more promising than expected.

Masamune-kun’s Revenge R season 2 Review and Plot Summary

The second season of Masamune-kun’s Revenge R takes place right after the first season, with Masamune and his friends heading off on a class trip to Paris.

What starts off as an innocent field trip quickly takes an interesting turn when he and Aki (voiced by Ayaka Ohashi) are forced to entertain a young French otaku named Muriel, who throws an unexpected wrench in their budding romance story.

Things change when Masamune begins to realize that his anger towards Aki may have been misplaced all along, but it’s hard to know if those changes will be for better or worse.

It doesn’t help that Kanetsugu is still very much in his way, but at least with more information about what really happened the night of the infamous “pig’s foot” incident, Masamune has everything he needs to decide how to proceed with Aki and his revenge plan.

All that matters now is whether or not Aki will believe or forgive him when she learns the truth herself.

Considering how much more dramatic this season has been, it has already eclipsed the first in terms of entertainment value. It seemed the first season relied more on comedy, and while it was funny at times, it was hard to drag the same joke out forever.

The pacing in season two has been much better, making the series more exciting and fun to enjoy. Instead of trying to prolong the same storyline, this one has moved much quicker without moving so fast that it’s hard to follow.

It keeps things fresh and makes it harder to guess what’s going to happen, which actually adds some intrigue to this rom-com.
